Found myself in a strange town
Though I've only been here for three weeks now
I've got blisters on my feet
Trying to find a friend in Oxford Street
I bought an A-Z guidebook
Trying to find the clubs and YMCAs
But when you ask in a strange town
They say "don't know don't care man I gotta go mate"
They worry themselves about feeling low
They worry themselves about the dreadful snow
They all ignore me 'cos they don't know
I'm really a spaceman from those UFO's...
The Jam - "Strange Town" (1978)
:flops into chair exhausted: Phew...some weekend.
So Saturday morning I set off for the smoke. After a four hour train journey thanks to the stupid railworks going on between Peterborough and Stevenage (
), I finally got to London and my hotel some time around 1.
Spent most of Saturday afternoon loafing around the city centre with the very excellent farqueue which included visits to far too many record shops for my wallet's good and trying out a Virtual Quiz Machine Simulator at the Trocadero Centre (every bit as surreal as it sounds I can tell you).
Then, of course, the meet on Saturday night. I was nervous as hell but inevitably I needn't have been as it was all great fun and everyone I met was incredibly friendly and nice. Good to see catcher and Vicky again after all these months and put some names to faces with people like munch, Burning_In_H2O and neonkick. Also met loads of great and really fun people who will doubtless be getting a friend request off me later this evening.
The only slight downside was that I didn't get too many photos - I dunno what it is but I always feel a bit odd asking people I don't really know too well if I can take a picture of them. Still, doubtless others have done the hard work for me on that score.
Spent most of Sunday hanging around Camden - that place really is something else!! Bought loads of cheap T-shirts and some "smokables" for later which should be fun.
So here I am back in boring old Leeds and contemplating a return to life as the Satellite (Town) Kid.
Still, on the bright side, am off work tomorrow as it's primate's 24th birthday - I would ask you to go over to his page and wish him many happy returns but it'd be a bit pointless as his membership's lapsed
. Still, for anyone who was asking how he was last night, rest assured that if the house share me and him have planned for the end of this month comes off (and the signs are thus far looking good), the first thing I'll do is ensure it gets re-activated.
Anyway, as it's his birthday tomorrow we're all off on a pub crawl of frankly Olympian proportions. And, guess which Muggins has a job interview on Tuesday at 9:30am? Yup, you guessed it...looks like lots of pints of water will be in order after 11pm...
Hope everyone else had as good a weekend as I did - speak to you all soon.

And the joys of public transport to eh?
Might see you for a pint on the Leeds meet, see if I can make it.
