So, perhaps I'm wrong about the mechanics of MR, but it seems like it's a really bad idea for the models to utilize it.
That is, of course, unless you're one of the models who will always be picked up: Sash, Aleon, Ember, etc. Though even Sash had one set not make it through. (That is, by the way, not some sort of knock at "mainstream" SGs. Look at my faves - all the girls I named are on there. There's a reason they're popular.)
So, basically, as a model, you produce this content. You then offer it to SG for a price. SG then utilizes that content to encourage members to keep paying their membership fees. So everyone wins.
But if you submit it through MR, then you give SG the content for free. SG provides this content to its members, though they admittedly don't market it as highly as their "approved" content, and members are thereby encouraged to keep paying the fees. And if enough members say, "I want moar" then SG compensates you, the model, for the content. If you don't get enough members who say that, then you aren't compensated for the content - you've essentially given it away for free. You could theoretically take that content elsewhere, but good luck selling something that's already been distributed on the Internet.
This seems to me to be a setup that is beneficial for SG and members, but pretty unfair to models and photographers - the people producing the actual content. It's sort of like if you went to work for a pizzeria, and you brought your own dough and ingredients, and made a pizza, and they sold it to a customer and kept that money, and then didn't pay you. But don't worry - if that customer comes back and says "That was a good pizza!" then you'll get paid. Seems like a good deal for the pizzeria.
The burden should be on SG to select and purchase content. That's sort of their job - like it's the job of companies to select quality employees and compensate them for their time. As it is, the only thing SG actually provides is the forum to distribute this content (plus moderation and administration of that forum). Otherwise, content and fees roll in, and there's not a whole hell of a lot they have to do to keep it going.
Now, SG can get away with it because it's the Internet and it's modeling, and both of these things don't really have clearly set rules for compensation. Further, it's so competitive, and so many chicks want to be a Suicide Girl just for the sake of saying "I'm a Suicide Girl" that it's unlikely to change. No one really has the influence to be able to rally some sort of model strike.
But still. Seems fucked up to me. Like SG should know better. And I don't think they're acting cynically in this - I expect it didn't even occur to them that this might be an unfair system. And I haven't seen anyone else complaining about it, so perhaps my understanding is completely wrong. Maybe there is some compensation for the models.
I know most girls don't apply to SG to earn phat lewt. Perhaps the case could be made that SG is like a radio station, and models are supposed to be using it as a platform to advertise themselves in some fashion -- sort of like Amina has done. But, on the other hand, SG isn't broadcasting this stuff. SG is a website. Websites are dirt cheap. Perhaps being affiliated with the SG brand is a worthy investment, but I can point to a number of naked Internet girls who seemed to have no problem becoming quite successful on their own, producing lower quality content (albeit in much greater quantity) than the models here at SG. So, again, it just doesn't seem worth it to me. What do the models get out of it?
I guess some of them get gifts from members. Sorry girls, I'm not doing that. I'm already a member of a porn site that requires me to pay money - but sending gifts is just a whole new level of creepy. You may not see it that way, and that's awesome. But I'm not going to pretend we have some relationship we just don't. I have real life friends I don't buy presents for.

I know that when I spoke with Holley about SR vs MR she was saying SG staff is sorta phasing out SR altogether. I know for me, I'd like to be paid of course, and go pink (that would be ideal!) -- Plus in addition to getting paid once your set is bought, you get a lot more traffic to your blog & the website sorta opens up doors to you meeting other creative types & can help you gain exposure as an alt model/get your art and ideas out there, if you know what I mean. x
Sg is so large and the brand has so much value and recognition that they can manipulate the models to get free content, because so many alt girls want to be associated with the brand, it's really smart for the company to take advantage of that at no cost, although as a model I dont like it, I cant blaim them.
Alot of girls do SG just for fun and for the community, creativity and (not gonna lie) the attention more then to get sets bought, I mean it's a lovely perk but in all honesty I can make $500 working a freelance job for three days, its nice money, but it's done more for personal gratification. I figure when ever I do a set, the least I get out of it is one or two clothed pictures for my port and resell it and it easily goes up on zivity and get some money, the best it goes live here and I get some money, win-win.
