When I first read Hunter S Thompson I thought it was all about the drugs. I spent a good deal of time procuring and sampling that which I had read about to relive the moments I enjoyed in print. Then I read more and decided it was about social commentary and statements about current events. I read more of his work and enjoyed him also as a writer of fiction as well.
Then I realized it really was about the drugs and booze but you do those things in a background of the time you live in. You just have to go balls out with the gonzo journalism.
