Decrease does not under all circumstances mean something bad. Increase and decrease come in their own time. What matters here is to understand the time and not try to cover up poverty with inner pretense. If a time of scanty resources brings out an inner truth, one must not feel ashamed of simplicity. For simplicity is then the very thing needed to provide inner strength for further understandings. Indeed, there should be no concern if the outward beauty of a civilization should have to suffer because of simplicity. One must draw on the strength of the inner attitude to compensate for what is lacking in externals; thus, the power of the content makes up for the simplicity of form. Even with slender means the sentiment of the heart can be expressed.

I have officially freaked out a few of my co-workers. Simply stated, we were out having a few drinks and long term future plans were brought up - life has never really been the same since I started to read about this in earnest:
http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/.
From that site (which IMO is a bit more pessimistic, but not necessarily wrong), and many others, you can, if you like, research all of this to your heart's content. I have read quite a bit about it, and I believe that within 10-15 years, well, let's just say things will be quite different.
Is this a metaphor for our times?
Earlier this week, on my way to work, I passed by a couple fighting on the side of the road. They were young, and the woman appeared to be trying to get into a car but was busy battering the guy, who was on a BMX bike. He must have had just about enough because he gave her a couple of good shoves. She came righ back at him, more furious than before. This was about the point that I passed by them, and decided that it might be a good idea to call the police, so I did. Normally, I don't usually get involved in this sort of thing, but it looked to me like the potential was there for something very serious to break out. If something had, and I heard about it later, I would only be able to reflect on what I could/should have done.
As it stands I never heard anything else about the incident. Just curious, but would you have done the same thing?
