So despite my ever-cheery appearance, I'm a regular visitor to the doctor and hospitals. I wish I was just a hypochondriac, but unfortunately what I have is very real and it's difficult when people don't take me seriously. I put on a very brave face a lot of the time; I'm a positive person and I'll always look on the bright side.
I suffer with a cruddy condition called endometriosis and it's a lot more common than you'd think. Basically, the lining that grows in your womb grows outside of it too and causes an awful amount of pain due to scar tissue and inflammation. It can also cause problems with fertility which, while I don't think I'll be falling into this category, is an important thing to address.
A lot of women don't realise they have endo. They'll put their chronic period pains down to just that; period pain. But ladies, if you suffer with an unusual amount of pain PLEASE don't ignore it cos it's probably not normal.
While I get that this isn't a topic for everyone, I just like to put some awareness out. And as there's a lot of girlies on this site, if I can help someone then I've done something good today.
I was made to feel gross and disgusting by my ex partner; he was a (I used this term loosely) grown man who recoiled at the thought of a period. He would throw a strop when he couldn't have sex with me because it was too painful. He called me lazy because I was so low that I couldn't move from the bed, most days. Thankfully I'm with someone now who looks after me when I'm in a bad way. He's so supportive. And that's all I need.
So far I've had two surgeries and all of the endo removed. There should hopefully be no more operations in the future. The only downside is pain management, but that all comes with time and finding the right stuff to help me.
Sorry for the story, but I like to be open about these things. And if any ladies read this who feel like they may have something wrong then know that there's help. No one needs to go through unnecessary pain.
Abi outtt ✌ x
