ATTENTION ALL NYC FRIEEEENDSSS!
HI!
So recently two of my very close friends have moved to the big apple. One got a job as a sous chef at some midtown spot- and the other got a job at a posh salon as a stylist. I am soo proud of both of them. Their achievements made me reflect on my own.
So I am 22 and I have a great job writing for an arts/entertainment magazine- as well as a full class load. I graduate next winter with a bachelor's in Strategic Communication and Visual Communication design. I caught myself thinking- "okay this time next year i will have an apartment of my own...this...that...the other... blah blah blah" Then i started to think- Wow... Is C-bus a permanent spot for me. I keep making excuses for staying but my whole life I've wanted to move and live in NYC. Sooooo ... what to do....
I would have to wait until I graduate anyway- so it wouldn't be until next winter. BUT... I want to get all the information from all my NYC friends here on SG about what I gotta do to make it to the big apple. What is the best way to get a writing/information design job- What kind of housing market is there- what should I know/do before I move... things like that.
SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! ANYONE WHO IS/HAS LIVING/LIVED IN NYC give me some advice, help whatever.. It would be greatly appreciated!!!!

if you want to live somewhere cool or trendy expect to pay a ridiculous amount in rent. it is very likely you will need roomates, and that can be nerve racking depending on who you find. people are dirty, or psycho or whatever...
NY is awesome because you can get anywhere through public transportation, there are things open at all hours of the day, cuisines from all over the globe are readily accessible, the arts are prevalent with shows and museums and music. and almost everyone you meet will not be a native NYer.
it's expensive, but if you're smart you can transition easily. feel free if you have any questions. i have lived here just about 6 months now
