So I had a discussion with my dad and my grandma today (family discussions ... oh yay!) about the upcoming election and who we were voting for.
I am totally un-decided as to which useless tit who is gonna screw me over is getting my vote. I tried to put my feelings across as to why I didn't want to vote for which party and it was when I got to the Conservatives that the argument took place.
Oh ... sorry - the discussion turned to an argument. I shoulda said that.
Anyways ... I am opposed to a BILLION dollars being spent on our military. I think that it is a waste of money and that if more money goes into it, the more urge there will be to use it for something stupid.
So both my dad and my grandma think the military should get tonnes more money.
I asked them why. What do we need it for? They both said, "to defend ourselves."
When I asked them from what, my grandmother gave me a song and dance about how the world isn't a safe place and there are many people out there that we need to be weary of and be able to defend ourselves if needed.
So I simply said, "Fine ... that $50 you gave me for my birthday ... I'm using it to buy a gun."
The look I got prolly could have and should have killed me. I got yelled at for thinking something so stupid.
I got into defensivc mode. "Well ... you know ... there are a lot of shady people out there that I should be careful of. I just want to protect myself ... just in case."
Somehow ... to them ... that is a totally different situation. They're all about gun control and getting guns off the street and all that jazz ... but hell ... take a billion fucking dollars and give a bunch of guys and gals some giant guns and other weapons and it's just fucking peachy.
Of course, when I tried to point that out a little more politely ... I was told that I was wrong.
Yup ... always wrong in their eyes no matter what I do or think ... even when it is smart.
