Well myself and a couple mates have just completed a 7008km tour of the outback. We left Brisbane at 12:30am on Saturday the 30th of March and headed to Roma, then on to Blackall and Longreach where we had a look at the Qantas Museum before moving onto the Stockmans hall of Fame.

![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
we soon got bored with that and headed off to Winton where we stopped for fuel
![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
and then drove onto Boulia where made camp for our first night at a playground/park in the middle of town as the was no camping grounds, however this turned out to be a bad idea and at 10pm we were told to move on by the local cops as they "feared" that we may get mugged by the local drunks during the night haha, so we ended up staying at a little crappy motel just down the road.
the next morning we headed of across desert on the Donahue & Plenty highway's the term highway is used rather loosely here as it was 860kms of dirt road from Boulia to Alice Springs.

![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
we stopped at a little pub called Middleton which was well named as it was in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by fuck all, about 460kms from the nearest town. There was a small helicopter parked to the side and the publican told us that her son would take us for a ride for a carton haha. There was also a phone box out here all on its own on the only bit of bitumen road for 100's of miles haha so we just had to take a pic.
![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
we spent about an hour here then moved onto to our next fuel stop at Jervois Station, which was a dump of a place hundreds of miles from anywhere and they charged $1.90 for a litre of unleaded so $143.00 later we got the fuck out of dodge and kept on with our journey to Alice.
![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
I have never seen such arid country in all my life and if you got stuck out here you would be in a world of shit, we did not pass a single vehicle in over 600 kms, so I was glad that we had brought along a sat phone, EPIRB (which is an emergency satellite location beacon) extra fuel and water in jerrycans and puncture repair kits as well as the spare tire. I was surprised to find that the temperature was cool out here, the hottest it got was 32c with an average during the day of around 23c, so we picked the right time of year to do this trip.
![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
so onward we drive to Alice Springs, through the dirt and dust.
![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
and hundreds of cattle grids later (that will shred tyres and bust rims if you don't slow down)
we finally reach the Stuart Highway and the Alice.![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
here we are at the top of Anzac Hill overlooking Alice Springs, which is a dry hole and the consense is to get the fuck out of dodge first thing in the a.m. and head for Ayers Rock.
![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
this pic adds new meaning to the term 'Wedgie' we saw Wedge Tailed Eagles every were, they are our largest bird of prey with a wing span up to 12 feet and didn't seem to give a fuck when a car drove by while all other birds flew off they just stayed and seem to dare you to fuck with them and when we did stop to take a foto they would only fly off at the last minute and then they would circle as if contemplating an attack for your insolence.

![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)

so we had a good sticky at this site, went on a couple of the walks, one of which was called 'Windy Valley' I will give you two guesses as to why it was called this and the first one doesn't count.
Ok then off we go to Coober Pedy and the Moon Plains, Opal mines and Scifi movie sights like 'Pitched Black' and its ilk
![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
this was taken from the set of Pitched Black staring Vin Diesel. Anyway its at this point I must say sorry as the pics of us in the underground motel and opal mines are on my phone camera and i can't find the usb cord to down load them, but when i do you will be the first to know.
