My project to mod my pc is almost completed, and damn if it hasn't had it's pitfalls and obsticles to overcome.
The Story So Far....
Aesthetic Mods:
Complete re-spray of cream-colored case with metallic paints (Aluminum and chrome finishes)
Both DVD drives fitted with aluminum bezels (To match monitors in lower drive bays)
Chequer-effect masking plates on case floor and over the re-positioned wiring connectors. (See****)
Turquoise EL wire on casefront.
Twin 12 " UV cold cathode tubes on the case floor.
12 " Blue neon tube under keyboard
12" Blue neon tube at the top (Back) of monitor.*
Twin 2.5" Blue neon tubes at the bottom (Back) of monitor.**
Functional Mods:
Replaced all the original case fans with new ones***
AeroGate II temperature monitor/fan controller and Musketeer monitor installed beneath DVD drives.
Interior Cables re-organized and sleeved to increase air-flow****
Number of case fans increased to 6
Exhaust Blower installed to assist fans.
Work to be done:
Re-spray case (for reasons mentioned in previous journal entry... )
Cut window into the side of the case to allow monitoring of fans. (Using
perspex window, as a mesh grill would destroy the "wind tunnel" effect created by the fans and exhaust blower.
During the process, I've had to restore my system thanks to XP SP 2 and will probably have to get a new graphics package At some point in the future, I might replace all the fans with a liquid cooling system to eliminate the noise of the fans.
Pics will be posted as soon as the project is 100% completed
* & ** Monitor neons are not visible while at PC, but illuminate the monitor footplate and backlight the cupboard with gentle glow.
*** Although they were LED and cold cathode fans for appearance, the fans themselves needed replacing...
**** Sleeves are green UV reactive and look The Shit, but were essential for increasing interior airflow. The cables were re-connected so the connectors could be re-located to the side of the DVD drives so the connectors were not obstructing the air-flow from front case fan.
