So, after the longest day of work ever, I came home to make sure Gomez was okay. It bothered me that nobody was here to keep an eye on him, but I could NOT take today off from work. Everyone is gone this week, and I had no one to cover my shift.
Anyway, he was just fine when I got home. He was fine when I left the vet's actually, but I wasn't convinced until I came home and he greeted me like Dino as usual, complete with running and jumping into my arms.
He's been pigging out on food all night, wrestling with Morticia, snuggling up to me, using his litter, and doing all the things that Gomez does.
Part of me thinks his ear troubles finally got the best of him and he experienced a bit of vertigo brought on by a bit of wax or dirt screwing with the hairs and whatnot. The tilt of his head, combined with the funky walk, resembled things he used to do before scratching at his ears and meowing deep in his throat. I'd never seen him act like THIS, though, and it scared me.
That's why I had the vet clean his ears out. The vet assured me Gomez didn't have ear mites, something I'd been concerned about since he had them as a kitten, but he said they were pretty gunky. I can't really fault Gomez for that, given how he can't operate a Q-tip with his little, kitty paws.
I'm going to keep an eye on him over the next couple of weeks. If it happens again, I'll take video and get him to the vet straightaway. If it doesn't happen again, I'll assume it was an inner ear thing.
I'm still going to have the blood work done, mostly because he is ten-years old and it's time to make sure all of his kitty systems are happy and working properly. I'm only going to do the MRI if he walks like a zombie again.
I'm also looking into pet insurance, just in case I have to do the MRI and/or put him on medication. Most insurances won't accept animals over ten-years old, but a friend of mine found some places that do. I'm going to check rates tomorrow.
As I type this, both kitties are cuddled up with each other, purring their fool heads off. I didn't realize how scared Morticia must have been as I raced out the door with him and she was left all alone. It didn't occur to me until tonight, since I was so worried about him all day. She's been a little clingier than usual, so I'm giving her extra attention too.

Nope. Becky and I have known each other for only about 26 years. My friend Jodi, I don't remember if you met her or not.
