Maegan June Crum and I got married on Christmas Eve.
I met her more than a year ago at a Halloween party at my friend Andy's house. I was infatuated and was hitting on her in a huge way right off the bat. She was very pretty in her kitty kat outfit with her little ears and her shiny bow tie necklace. And she was a talker and very interested in me. We talked most of the night. I didn't drink at all as I was shipping out at 4am and had to drive myself to the airport, but we talked and talked and talked. Every chance I had I was with her. I was wearing a Halloween mask and would not take it off until near the end of the night. It was the ultimate test, to see if a woman liked me even if she couldn't see my face, and she did.
I left that night with sorrow in my heart and returned to the Navy a hurt man. We corresponded for the next coming months on myspace, but nothing much came of it. We mainly talked of life and lost loves, of finding love and of the hurts and virtues that life throws at a person daily. After awhile the myspace messages slowly tappered off, but I always had her in my heart, hiding in the back.
I went home on Christmas leave and saw her the first night I was there and gave her the deepest hug I could imagine. Now I had recently gotten out of a relationship that broke me and hurt me little more than a month ago and I was still reeling from it's effects, I was somewhat devoid of emotion. A man acting on instincts unfortunatly.
We hooked up and within days I was nuts about her. The third day at home I was already introducing her to my family. I was hooked. Her was a woman that I could love. The next day I took her to meet my grandma and my mom. Things started going a little fast. My grandmother told me straight up that I would be an idiot if I let this one go.
I arrived home Saturday the 13th and by Wednesday the 17th we had decided to get married. It was a snowball effect. I can't remember who we told first or when, but I know that once we got our marriage license we both knew we were in love. After that we made the announcement to a few friends who refered us to Fico, who just so happened to be an ordained minister. He agreed to Marry us. After that we met with my sister and Nate at Denny's in Kalalmazoo and made the announcement there, and eventually it snowballed and everybody knew.
I went around meeting all her family, getting their approval, which was easy: all I did was be myself. No acting, nothing. I was just me. I walked in there talked to them, told them our plans and how much I cared for Maegan June and what our ideas were for the future. They all approved. Now everyone thought we were nuts for doing it on such short notice, but they approved none the less.
We got married December 24th 2008, Christmas Eve, in my grandma's front room between a fireplace and a lit Christmas Tree, with one of my best friends from Harper Creek, Reverend Fico, presiding over us. Seeing my honey walk out to meet me was breathtaking and unreal. It was the culmination of all that I have been waiting for in life. It was the best day of my life. Hands down.
And now I am a married man. She is moving to California on January 22nd. I'm really excited about that. The place is a little small, but we'll move as soon as the lease is up. I'm excited. I'm in love. My wife is amazing.
