Well, It looks like I am still employed.
I don't really feel that happy about it, though. Don't get me wrong, I certainly didn't WANT to lose my job, it's just that we lost so many other good people that it's impossible to feel happy. Last night was a horrible ordeal. It was like a plague was sweeping through the building and we all kept asking each other who was safe and who was not. There were some people whom we expected to lose and some people who were complete surprises, but no one, not one person who is not going to be struggling. Some of these people have spouses that just recently lost their job, or kids who have existing medical conditions or mortgages that they can't afford to pay. And it's so difficult because you want to help them, but you can't possibly help all of them. And how do you pick? There are about 15 or so people whom I worked with that are gone and I know that all together the site laid off about 3 to 4 hundred.
There's a lot of speculation that this is just the first round of more lay offs to come. I don't even know how we are going to function without the people that we lost last night, much less if we lose any more.
I guess for the time being I'm still in the fight. We'll see how long that lasts.
