I just started an awesome program. It's from an equally awesome book Restoring Your Digestive Health
I was going to try the master cleanse or an herbal cleanse, then i thought, well what about my (and my boyfriend's severe) hypoglycemia? just fruit juice and honey? talk about a blood sugar nightmare! then i found this.
Basically you just eat soup. If you have severe GI disorders you take the chunks out or blend it up, but most of us don't need to.
You use all organic, natural ingredients of course. No use trying to cleanse while putting gmos, hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, etc etc in you.
Here are the goals of phase one of the 'Guts and Glory Program'. (Phase one lasts 7 to 14 days, or until you feel completely rejuvinated.)
*To rest the bowel. The recommended low calorie, high nutrient foods are easy for the body to absorb. Instead of devoting its resources to digestion, the body can devote them to repairing the damaged lining of the bowel wall.
*To repair the lining of the bowel. The damage villi and microvilli on the intestinal wall cannot properly absorb food. Our program restores the mucos lining of the wall of the intestines to good health.
*To reduce the total microflora. By reducing the total poultion of microorganisms in the gut, you reduce the amount of harmful bacteria.
Harmful bacteria cause many gut diseases.
Reducing the amount of bacteria leaves fewer bacteria to ferment undigested food that travels in the colon. That means less bloating and gas.
*To reduce inflammation.
*To rehydrate the body. Most people, especially those with inflammatory bowel disease, are chronically dehydrated. Our program provides electrolytes to help the body rehydrate.
*To detoxify.
And now for the recipe:
We had to use two HUGE pots for this. One batch lasts two people two days.
Brasco Broth
What you need:
~3 Quarts filtered water (we used more)
~1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar (we used more)
~4-6 tablespoons coconut oil
~1 medium organic, free range or kosher chicken ( or you can substitute another kind of poultry or beef)
~2-4 chicken feet (anything with a ton of collagin(sp) is fine though. We used beef knuckles and it's delish)
~8 organic carrots, sliced (we just bought packs of baby organic carrots and dumped them in to taste)
~6 stalks of celery, sliced
~2-4 organic zucchinis, sliced
~3 medium sized organic onions, sliced
~4 inches ginger, grated
~5 cloves garlic, peeled
~2-4 Tbsp sea salt
~1 large bunch fresh parsley
You can substitute different veggies,. The ones they list as acceptable:
squash
broccoli
asparagus
beets
cauliflower
brussels sprouts
cabbage
eggplant
kale
collard greens
mushrooms
peas
peppers
string beans
tomatoes
What to do:
~Put everything in the pot (leave the chicken whole)
~Bring to a boil
~ Boil 60 seconds
~Lower to simmer for 12-24 hours
~Add parsley 30 min before removing from heat
We cooked the pots for eight hours and then put it in the crock pot to keep warm all day.
The recipe says to remove the chicken feet and the chicken , take the meat off the bones and put the meat back in, but our meat was so tender it fell off the bone anyway, so we just ladeled around the bones.
I'm thinking we'll do phase one for a week, then phase two until we've lost the weight we want to.
Phase two is the same as Phase one, but you add cooked vegetables (not just the ones in the soup) , cultured dairy products (preferably organic, and as raw as possible...yogurt, kefir...NOT nonfat or lowfat and NOT with added sugar...the kind with honey is ok)
Also in Phase two we can start taking our probiotics again, thank god. we ran out a month ago and our digestion is nowhere near as good now.
If anyone is looking for a good, no AMAZING probiotic that has changed everyone's lives who has taken it , try Primal Defense.
But, like I said, it's pretty hard-core and takes real dedication so it's not for everyone. To me, it was like taking a vacation for my health. All I did was read, write, work, and walk. I did a lot of journaling, which helped. Because my emotions were detoxing and being purged too. It really was a spiritual experience. Ask any one of my friends who saw me go through it....BIG change. And I met you a few weeks after that (you probably wouldn't have liked me as much before...hee, hee! Stressed out Bitch!)
