Well well - my first night sleeping on a bed that is stationary - it was great.... slept for a solid 8 hours - much needed that was.......
My roomies had to drag me out to the bar last night - on one hand it was cool - on the other - i was really in no condition to be out drinking - I got so wasted and was so tired that I couldn't really communicate much - I felt like a fish out of water.....
SO - a few stories from my trip are in order.........
For one - it was way too long to be cooped up in a van with my mom.... we had some arguments and I will just leave it at that.
Secondly - it was way too long to be stationary - I almost feel as if my muscles have all atropied - so I am going for a bike ride...
Next - when little puppies are in a van - and they poop - the smell is horrible - like acid - it burns the nostrils yuck yuck yuck..... they also bark loudly - especially when they all do it in unison...
Next - I was living on gas station and truck stop food - and that is awful - how many times can one eat crumb dounuts, soda, bear claws, chips, beef jerky and coffee? A lot apparently - but ugh..... I need real food.....
Here is where we went - we started out here in OR..... went to Los Angeles, through AZ, NM, TX, ALA, MO, TN, IND, OH, PA, New York, NJ, DEL, VA, NC, MN, ILL, KY, NM, UT, and NV.
We broke down near Asheville NC.... that sucked ass - but there was a cool mechanic who helped us out and didn't take advantage of us..... not all people suck.... so we stayed there overnight. I was going to meet up with the_gargirl - but my mom and I got into an argument about that and she said we had lost too much time for that.... so after the argument I just gave up and didn't talk to her for a while.....
My mom doesn't drive very well - she drifts from lane to lane - and that is stressful trying to sleep knowing that she might kill us as I sleep... there was a bed in the back of the van - where we were supposed to sleep - because we never stopped moving - if she was driving - I was trying to sleep and vice versa - you know it is almost impossible to sleep with a van in motion and all of the fucking potholes on the road - it was a nightmare to try and sleep - I have never in my life gone without sleep like that..... 10 days and 11 hours of sleep - an hour here and an hour there..... ugh. I seriously started to doubt my sanity a couple of times.....
So we say this bad bad wreck..... I think it was in Georgia - some cars piled up on the opposite side of the freeway and it was pouring rain - i mean pouring like I had never seen it before..... so this woman gets out looking at the damage - and this car comes over the hill - and it didn't see her and just ploughed into her - it was horrible - I had to turn my head and close my eyes - I couldn't handle it - I cried......
In Atlanta Georgia - I pulled in to refuel and these 2 crack heads approached me - looking around shifting their eyes and looking around all paranoid like - and they started to tell me they needed money - when I said I didn't have any - they stated to get closer and looked around more - and the one guy says 'do it man' and as they tried to grab me - I jumped in the van - like lightening and locked the door and took off - just in time. Close call.....
I got a warning ticket in NM for going 83 in a 75 zone..... little did he know that I had slowed down from 95..... that was a close one......
So yeah - I can't tell you how good it is to be home - I will never do that again - never..... and if you hear me ever considering it - slap some sense into me..... promise me that!
I am readjusting to things - doing laundry, unpacking boxes, replying to emails, eating real food taking naps, drinking real coffee, thanking the gods that I made it back alive [my mom is a scary driver], and making some sense of the past 10 days - it was a blur and I had some trying times....... settling in so to speak.....
I missed you all...... I am back and as soon as I recover - summer is on - going to a BBQ and whiffle ball game later - going to play some music - drink - be merry - and be normal........
good to be home........
