This week, I talk a lot about my creative process, how I’ve found myself at a bit of a creative and existential crossroads, and what I’m doing about it.

    • * Radio Free Burrito doesn’t work as hard to earn its [EXPLICIT] tag as Memories of the Futurecast did, but it still manages to upset mom and get Twitter breakup messages from sensitive people. You have...

Serial Mom is one of my favorite horror films ever.

In a few hours, I’m heading to the theatre for the final rehearsal for tonight’s performance of The War of the Worlds, as part of the 2015 Sci-Fi Fest.

I have the great honor and privilege of playing Orson Welles as Professor Pierson. It’s a bit of a dream come true for me, because I’ve been listening to the infamous 1939 broadcast of War...

I wrote a long post on my blog about being attacked by a group of people I call The Stupidsphere, mostly to clarify who I believe these people are, and who they are not.

This comment, from reader Merus, is incredibly interesting to me:

“So I’ve been reading about cults for a thing (although cults, as we think of them, and not just...

Sadly, my parents are in this realm.  Totally untrusting of any source other than FOX.  They aren't unintelligent, just frightened old folks.

I studied ancient cults as my special subject at university and I found it fascinating. I see elements of what he's describing in every aspect of human on human interaction though. Rather than disliking the ideas that people hold, we dislike the people themselves. Rather than believe in actual freedom of speech, we believe in a freedom to agree or to get the hell out.

It’s later than usual, but it’s not a year later! How about a new Radio Free Burrito!?

This week, I talked a lot about our secret vacation, and Anne joined me to share a story from her blog.

I think I’m finally getting the hang of mixing podcast audio in Audacity, largely thanks to the wiki.

A couple of very brief notes:

This is a big deal for me. A few months ago, my friend introduced me to Marc Bernardin, who is a new editor for Playboy. My friend told me that Marc is helping bring back the kind of writing that Playboy had in the 70s and 80s, when it was held up next to Esquire, Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone. They both thought that I...

I used to do a weekly podcast, but then I stopped because I got busy with other things, and I always felt like hardly anyone listened to the podcast, anyway.

But I started it up again this weekend, because it's fun for me to do, and it's a good thing to work on while I'm in between other projects.

This week, I talk about...

This isn’t one of those posts about not posting, except that it kind of is.

A couple of nights ago, Anne and I were sitting on the couch, Seamus between us, watching Modern Family. A fire in our fireplace warmed our living room, and both of our cats, who were stretched out in front of it.

Modern Family is one of my favorite shows on...

I recently found that I wasn't writing blogs much either.  It was most likely because the people that used to frequent my blogs don't anymore so I wondered who I was writing for.  Then it hit me.  I write for myself.  That may sound selfish but its true.  Writing blogs even for an audience of one is oddly satisfying in a way that little else in my life really is.  And even if no one reads it who cares?  Actually that's a lie.  No blog I have ever written has ever not been read by anyone.  Sometimes the only reader is me but I'm okay with that.

At the moment I'm only writing at work and it makes me sad.

I'm recording an audiobook today and tomorrow, in a small studio up in the valley where I work fairly regularly. Everyone there knows me, and it's comforting and sort of grounding to go to work in a familiar place, even though I'm working on entirely different books whenever I'm there.

Today, I finished the first of two stories from a collection, and got about halfway...
