I am back from my travels down south. Even though we were plagued by all manner of mishaps on public transportation, we managed to get to see Neurosis, who were...

... Great. Sadly however, last time I saw em, they were unbe-fucking-lievable. The set list this time round was a little eccentric. A lot of stuff from Enemy of the Sun and Sovereign which I'm...

i was down the road at the underworld to see Black Cobra, but it finished so early we had time to go and see Neurosis too! i'm not really familiar with their stuff so can't say if it was a good performance or not, but i know i spent a shitload of money on tickets and petrol that night, haha!!

kept my eye out for you, but maybe you were in a disguise or lurking in the shadows?
takeahnase:
I dunno, man, I thought the show was pretty awesome, but then again I've never seen them live before, I was in the front row (which I haven't done for a large gig in a long time) and, thanks to a lack of sleep, I was in a somewhat sensitive state. I'll agree that the setlist was somewhat eclectic though, particularly Crawl Back In, which I fucking love. The new material was much heavier than I expected too. What can I say, I'm very easy to please smile

Ah right, I'll be arriving in the morning so I guess I might see you in the queue or summat. As for the gig, no worries, I was just curious as the other support cancelled as well. Catch ya around, man.
annalee:
Yeah fingers crossed for that. I need to find out about hotels and flights soon. Hope you're well! skull

Well looks like I'm getting shifted departments at work, away from my bitch manageress and into a (hopefully) saner environment. Same cash though, and I have to wear a shirt and tie. Ah well, thems the breaks.

Apart from that, I've hit my normal bout of Autumn insomnia. It always seems that the clocks changing throws by biorythmns out of synch for the two two...

almost everything is perfect...not included: not having any money and my fucking knee...aww..... wink ...we have to meet at roadburn mister walstafa.... biggrin

You are going to that Neurosis gig?!?! I couldn't get that weekend off work frown I hope you have a great time *secretly resentful*

Looks like we're not supporting Mono on the 6th anymore. Guss' work can't give him the time off required to make a Monday Night gig happen, so that's that. Kinda upset, but we've had two amazing gigs in the last fortnight, so I can't complain too much

Work sucks, my manager is an incompetant bitch and has managed to turn the department in on itself....

bum news on the gig front mate, sorry to hear that.

i miss loads of great stuff due to work as i work an alternating early and late shift throughout the year, and i can't book any days off as holiday as that's all done on a factory shut down basis! pretty much ran out of excuses too, weddings, runs to the airport etc!!!

Gig last night rocked. Cold Dead Hands always put on decent shows with good banter. There is no other promoter I know which encourages such shenannigens as Human Pyramids, Human Skipping Ropes and Human Limbo Poles. Not to mention the Slo-Mo Wall of Death. smile

As for the bands, well I loved Kaddish, we played alright, not as tight as Sunn0))), but definately louder, Narwhal were...

Glad your show went well! I think it's good to have a little variety, and this Finnish Prog you speak of intrigues me very much!
hickers:
glad you had a good one!

my old bands used to get tacked onto weird bills too, which can be cool, but often ends up with a hatred vibe coming from the crowd! used to love those to be honest, ha, ha!!! my last band used to close the set with a 10 minute doom song called 'Mojave', but if the crowd vibe was really shitty we'd simply extend it to around 15-20 minutes, then run away afterwards!!

"Scotland desperately needs more Funeral Doom."
"_______ desperately needs more Funeral Doom!!!!"

we got asked to play a 50th birthday party once, but wisely turned that one down, then there was the time we were booked to play a gig in london in a small pub, while they were holding a wake in a room next door!! we bailed on that one too after being threatened. all good fun!

yeah, cheers for that. i've seen Ninehertz before while i've been searching for tour dates for various bands, but kinda forgotten about it for a while. thanks for reminding me! just been reading some of your tour blog on there.

Mothertrucker are local(ish) to where i live, and i pretty much agree with your review. their rockin' moments are nicely rockin', but for whatever reason i don't really feel compelled to go and see them again. i don't mind purely instrumental bands, but you've gotta work that extra bit harder in my opinion to make up for it. also, there's too much cosmic wah, but time will tell i guess?
lizzi:
Haha...what?!

Gig was great. A bundle of stress getting ready during the day and only getting 15mins to set-up and soundcheck (Whilst Sunn0))) took about an hour and a half.)

New drummer's working out great, even if the silly little fucker was beating himself up about one dropped stick. (I lost count of my fuck-ups during the set, but I think the count was somewhere around...

i've seen 'em a few times. sometimes you're in the right mood for it, and it blows you away, other times, it just doesn't quite hit the mark. atmosphere, sound quality, volume, tiredness etc are all obviously gonna make a difference to the show.

i first saw them when they were the support for Goatsnake. no hoods and cloaks, no hype and no music press over excitement, just solid drone!!

a great act to open for non the less, you desreve to be chuffed!

In 22 and a half hours, I'm gonna be onstage supporting Sunn0))).

And the nerves have kicked in already...

Well today was going boringly until my phone goes at twenty-to quitting time. Turns out it's Guss from Ix and we've been asked to support Sunn0))) this Sunday in Glasgow!

I was happy.
hickers:
congrats, nice one!!
glad someone's having a good day, 'cause mine started great then went to crap! dentists and traffic jams = shit day!
lizzi:
I'm really going to try and work the "pin-up" angle. We'll see how it goes!

Plus ca change. Just over two weeks until our first gig with the new drummer. We're jamming again on Friday, hopefully it'll go well. Might drag myself down to Edinburgh this weekend for a night on the lash with Mr Steve.

I shall now leave you with another mighty Vid from my adolescence:

hickers:
no mate, i'm not from nottingham, i'll simply travel anywhere within a 2 hour drive radius to go and see gigs!!! notts is only an hour away so it's no big deal, plus the angel usually sounds pretty good and i know i'll get a pretty good night for my effort.

i haven't seen palehorse in ages, are they still going then?
hickers:
you can't really go wrong with The Obsessed can you?!
never seen that video before, cheers for that.
