You guys ever watch talk shows and think "What the fuck IS this?"
All it is, as I can't help but see it, is 2 or more people we don't know talking about things we generally don't give a fuck about. I'm referring to the interviews done on the late night talk shows, and Oprah, the View (is that still on?)... any one used as...

I didn't have TV for like six months (the goddamn cable company decided that we shouldn't be stealing cable anymore {it was already stolen when we moved in}). We just bought an antenna for our house, so now we get the free stations. Now, all of TV is "what the fuck is this???". It's really odd how stupid TV seems after not watching it for such a long time.
longblackbangs:
tongue that parallels too many of my late night experiences that it is scary. The talk shows, like you said, just blow my mind but also the local public broadcasts, religious nuts, and infomercials are too much. People telling each other things you don't give a flying shit about and it is all intended for that person sitting on the couch at home who should have there own life going. (and some people just take it at face value and dont realize how rediculous it all is).

The concept of a laugh track just scares the shit out of me though. Yes please, tell me when I think it should be funny!

Anyway, no need to be sorry (stoner conversation or not) because it is one of those "absurdity of mankind" topics that are always welcome.wink

Off the subject though...I'm gonna be out of school in a few weeks with a little bit of free time...fire off a few "favorite books"! smile

Vegetables I Don't Like:

Parsnips
Cooked Carrots
Cooked Peppers
I don't think I like Brussels Sprouts
In fact, I don't think I like Sprouts at all.
Not so big on the whole Turnip deal either.
And that kind of Baby Green that fancy people put in salads that tastes really bitter. Yeah, I don't like that. Is it called Rocket? I would hate to dislike...

The album is alright. There are a few really good tracks, where they do Faint-esque synth music (which i think is better than The Faint's stuff). The rest of the album is just garage-y guitar music, which isn't as interesting.

This is only coming off of one listen though, I have't had the chance to listen to much music in the past week.

Jessie got a Pinback album the at the same time (I'm not sure of the name of it). Do they have more than one?

Oh! and to answer your question...I don't like bananas. I know those aren't a vegetable, but that doesn't make them any less gross!

thank you very much for the support...i really appreciate it.

Has it really hit you that your friend is gone yet? I'm just waiting for it to really become real. Thanksgiving, probably. Or maybe my birthday, which is the next day. She passed away 9 days before my birthday. Happy birthday me.

you probably noticed your page was all screwy. it was because my name was too long.

i've shortened it for now, but in all likelihood i'll just go anon soon, and it will no longer be a problem.

I went to a bar in Toronto with some friends of mine and had a few drinks. I spent about half-an-hour talking about Soundgarden and slagging bands that "ripped their shit off like friggin' vultures on carrion."

I didn't start though, until Big Wreck sat down at the table next to ours. I don't know why I felt like being a complete bastard that night, but it was fun.

Okay, back to the random journal zaniness that toria brings!

ummmmmmmm......

yep. i've got nothing. i just thought i'd replace the gloominess of the previous journals with something.....

Oh, here's something. Saw Boondock Saints last night, as I've heard many people say it's one of their favourites.... it was hideous. and not even "ironic, b-movie funny" good, but the shittiest movie i've seen in recent...

Yup, I've heard of the ladder theory. So where do the, "whoa crap, you are so much cooler than I ever thought you were" girls that you've only known in passing friendship fit in? Seriously, I'm not being facetious. I haven't been interested in a girl in over a year, then BAM, I get Emeril'd.

...and I think the attraction of Boondocks Saints is it's like Die Hard written and directed by Kevin Smith. It's got Billy Connolly in it too -- that's worth two stars of its own!
leningrad:
I wouldn't say dapper, exactly. Bearable, maybe.

This past week I've been absolutely stunned by how taken for granted many friendships/relationships of any sort are. I didn't realize my friend who passed away had such a defined place in my life until I was forced to realize we would never speak again. I know there is so much poetry, music and art in general dedicated to these sorts of sentiments after losing...

I hope you feel better, i feel the same about friends, you can get complacent about them. All my friends have left now that we've finished university and i've never wanted to see them more. hope you get through all that is on your mind.
doctashock:
You know if certain things weren't taken for granted we would probably all suffer from sensory overload. All you can do is prioritize the things in your life and decide whats most important to you personally. This is called character.

It's really weird when you actually go through something that makes you see art in a whole new light. But it makes you appreciate the piece that much more. I swear I had listend to In Utero for 6 years before I actuaLLY "HEARD" it. It's uncanny how much "Serve the Servants" parrelells my own life.

Even though a lot of stuff is cliched once you've been through something yourself, you can usually tell when someone else has put true emotion behind it.

I found out a couple hours ago a friend of mine died. His parents just found out this morning. He was found o.d.'d in a hotel room in downtown Vancouver by a housekeeper.
This guy had been in trouble with drugs before. Then he straightened himself out, took over the family carpentry business after his Dad got diagnosed with Alzheimers. He was out visiting a...

This weekend I got asked out twice at work. I never get asked out. Unless there's copious amounts of booze involved. Sad but true.

But there's more. This story gets a little weirder.

Saturday night, I'm about to lock the door, as a customer I've seen before is like "Can I still get a tea?" We proceed to chat, as I'm trying to get him...

I hate hating everything all at once. It's just too much for a generally okay person like me. Here's what happened, in brief. Bought 10 tickets to go see FourTet and Prefuse 73 in Vancouver tomorrow night. Convinced 9 of my buddies from Vic to go, 5 of whom were going to stay with me at the parent's place. All set, all stoked.
Then I...

Dinner was organic locally made granola with soymilk. Does that make me a hippie? For a kid who grew up with family Sunday dinners of meat and taters... quite the contrast.

New journal entry. Man, I'm not good at this. Ummm, today I hung out with my ex-roommate for the first time really since we went our seperate ways... it was rad. As good as ex sex... all the stuff you loved about them, and none of the garbage associated with why you split.
And today I'm angry about gelatin.

Tell you more? Well, alright.

This journal's going to be a bit of a contrast to the spam porn rant i went on last time... but an interesting contrast i think!
i don't have cable, don't listen to the radio, don't buy mainstream magazines... yet i still feel this assault of mainstream advertising culture is hard to shake.
