It is difficult, if not damn near impossible, to live in L.A. without a car. Commuting takes hours as it is. By the subway/buses, it would take forever, and that's if you live and work on the lines.
Once you visit, you'll see what I mean. L.A. is VERY spread out. It's wonderful - don't get me wrong - but you will need your car.
Besides, driving is fun.

Los Angeles is beyond cool. It's fucking amazing. It's the most perfect city I've ever visited.
Well, aside from their crappy public transit system. If they actually had a decent subway layout, I'd be there in a heartbeat. It's so beautiful, and you have everything you want - city, ocean, mountains, desert - all within an hour's drive from each other. I can't wait to go back.
