Happy New Year

I aim to loose some weight too, after all of the Christmas indulgence. I lost 30 lb over 2005 on the weight watchers plan, but I have gained back 5 lb over the holiday

I hope your new job gives you a good workplace and considerate managers. It makes a huge difference if work is OK. So I will also be wishing that comes true for you.

I always love how you let us get a view of your life through your journal entries.

- Your job sounded screwed up and if it continues like that maybe you should look into another job.

-That manager sounds like he/she thinks they are above the drama of customers until they are Required

- Has the boy looked into AA? Perhaps the process and structure could help him to quit. Other than that just let him know how happy you are when he doesnt drink and that he has your support.

There is a lot going on in your life at the moment and I hope that you get the chance to have a great Chrismas.

I worked with an alcoholic boss, who made our lifes hell at times. I ended up leaving that job with nothing to go to and it was a scarry time for me. Things worked out in the end and I felt 100 times better for going.

I am not trying to suggest what you should do, that is your choice, but alcoholism is a very difficult addiction to deal with. If your bf drinks, it does not mean that he does not love you, but addiction can dominate the life of the addict and their loved ones.

I have a cousin in America who is a reformed alcoholic, and he has kept of the booze for a long time, but not everyone is that strong.

It's good that you have the commitment to help him, but you need to think about yourself too.

Whatever choice you make, I wish you well.

ya its an awesome job...when things get busy and stressful I just remember what it is I am going to be doing...it seems pretty surreal.

ouch, that sounds particularly unpleasant. i guess mice, as with a lot of otehr animals, have that strange, brutal kind of group hierarchy though where it's all about there being a dominant male who has to get all alpha male on the others. i just hope isaac doesn't take it any further than biting off poor snowflake's whiskers. poor thing.

the move went pretty well - admittedly half to three quarters of my stuff is in storage back in scotland, and i'm feeling kind of empty handed without a lot of my random belongings, but just the whole adventure of being here, and the total culture clash is enough of a distraction.

it's bloody cold, though

The alphabet is actually very easy because it is intuitive. Some vocabulary is similar and some of the tenses have some parallels. For instance, "you" in French is "tu" in the informal and "vous" in the formal, while in Russian it is "Ты" (Tee) in the informal and "Вы" (Vee) in the formal. The languages have a lot of differences (one is Central Slavonic, the other is Romance), but the French influence (from being the language of diplomacy and the preferred language of the nobility) is clear in some cases. Knowing a decent amount of German would help similarly.

Some of the tenses are difficult though. Russian isn't an easy language.

Are you planning on going to a Canadian doctorate program? I am not familiar with who is working on what at most non-American universities. If you are planning on going to an American university, I can make a list of where the good programs are, who is teaching at them, and what their focus is.
