I feel sort of funky this evening. No real reason. Had a reasonable day at school. Just half a step outta sorts.
I'm sure laundry and LOST will help that. Well. Maybe not the laundry bit.
Also: Huh. I can categorize my journals now. That's cool I guess. Though, there seem to be so many tags - I'm not sure what the utility is? Like...

Today, a man is coming to tell me how much it will cost me to move across the country. I'm sort of afraid of what he's going to say.

Oh god, they really rip you off with the cross country move thing. I'd ask if the new job is going to help offset any of the costs, but given the economy, I can't imagine colleges/universities having much to offer for the fringe stuff. Boooo.
quella:
That's excellent!! Now, don't move in August or they're so busy they mix your things with other people's in those huge trucks and then they leave it for everyone to work it out amongst themselves!

So, I signed up for the twitter. I think, surprisingly, I really like it.

For the first time ever last night, my wife and I did the "tasting menu" thing at a restaurant. We hit up Topolobampo and it was delicious as usual.
Outside of being hella expensive, the whole tasting menu approach was actually really fun and cool. The one downside was that, because we had a late reservation and the plates are small, it was hard to...

I concur indeed.

I like how, as my wife pointed out, Hurley has simply become the voice of truth, nothing more, nothing less. Everything he says is straight truth.
Tasting menus are the shit, and totally worth the money. Especially if there is a wine pairing option as well.

Yeah, the wine always adds a nice chunk of change. Usually worth it though, if you don't mind pouring yourself into a cab afters.

I've been looking into updating my wardrobe, to get ready for my big professoring days this fall. While I have some jackets and nice shirts, the majority of my wardrobe now revolves around t-shirts. Plus, a lot of my button downs no longer fit - many of them are just too damn big. So I need to up the ante, so I look respectable.

Just wear one anyway, same thing everyday.

I have an enormous Juliet crush. She's so hot. I don't mind Jack as much as most people seem to. And I'm super stoked to see Daniel again, even if I can't remember why he's coming off the sub...
Can't you just invest in a coat with patches on the elbows and be done with it?

Lost makes me crazy. Two weeks ago, I felt pretty over the whole show. The whole thing just felt too baroque. I wasn't really sure what was happening anymore, keeping track of the characters and timeline felt like work instead of fun, and I wasn't even sure what the motivating conflict or plot were anymore. When the show started, it was this great big about...

Well, now that you've put that desire out there maybe the universe will take notice.
I've always liked the Miles character, so I was happy to see him featured last night.

Hackers is the most 90s and AWESOME movie ever. How have I not seen this sooner?
Angelina Jolie is intensely hot, they toss around "elite" as a compliment, and the bad guy RIDES A SKATEBOARD. Yes yes yes please yes.
The whole move actually made me wonderfully nostalgic for my high school days. Back in the mid-90s, when getting on the Internet was sort of...

I felt the need to work on it again. We'll see how long it lasts.
There's rumblings every once in a while of someone starting up a game again, but it never happens.

Nice. Who knows, you might get caught up in something too.
About a month ago, I picked up the DC Absolute Edition of Watchmen. It's been a while since I've re-read the book, and I picked it up because all the buzz about the movie (which I never did see) made me curious again. The book, of course, holds up really well and is always interesting. Except for one thing.
Dr. Manhattan really sucks.

I liked the movie, but I've never read the book. It sounds like Sandman mike make it onto the night stand though, and I love all of the Warren Ellis I've read.

He's never been one of my favorite characters. Shit, I like the newsstand guy more than the doc. But the movie certainly helped.
I'm reading over my introductory chapter right now, and I'm trying to make it *better.* The argument and so on are there, and need relatively little work. (That's not wholly true. The argument probably needs a lot of work. But there are two kinds of dissertations: done and good. We're focusing on the former right now.) What I'm really working on is the flow of...

Also, I know it might be totally elementary for you, but Googling Strunk and White, from 1913, helped me a lot. It was a bit humbling to realize I didn't know how to write an effective paragraph, but knowing that helped.

Funny, a comment about Cliff's Notes in my journal and then this update from you. Happy reading.
I really dig the new Franz Ferdinand album. On the other hand, while good, it seems that all M. Ward albums sound disconcertingly the same.

I'm going to try and avoid talking about work, school, and so on. I think, for about the last four months, that's all I've been talking about. Let's move on, shall we?
Over the weekend, I went home to spend a few days with the family over my spring break. It was a good visit: ate some good food and hung out with some friends....

Its also why I never went to see the Vagina Monologues.

That's a good start then.
I have a job. A job like I thought I would never want: a teaching post at a small liberal arts school in the Mountain West.
And I can't wait. I mean, I'm scared too. It's a big change, a big responsibility, and I always hate making choices. But honestly, mostly, I'm totally stoked.
