It's summer, and it's beautiful: legs and hips and lovely breasts everywhere. It's enough to make me weep. I think, perhaps, the think I'll miss most about this city - not the food, the music, the shopping - is the *women.* For real.

I don't think you can call something fun if it's only 10% fun. wink

Last weekend, we loaded up the car with all the stuff we were giving away to Goodwill. The amount of shit we hauled out of our closets was *amazing.* There were, literally, items in there we had not seem (nor hardly thought of) in the six years we'd lived here. This is a project we should have engaged in after we moved here. Fuck it:...

Oh hell yes. I don't really know anyone that enjoys the process. The idea of moving and the actually being moved in part doesn't suck, but the doing almost always does.
madscience:
I just did this too, except Volunteers of America will come out to you and pick it up, thank god. I'm not even much of a pack rat, and I was amazed at how much crap I got rid of.

Just in the last few days, the reality of moving 1400 miles away has really started to sink in. I'm excited about the job, and the place where I'm moving. I'm very happy to not be broke anymore, and to be out from "under the thumb" of an advisor. But, for the first time, I really feel gut-punched by the whole idea.

I mean, damn:...

You should have your folks drive out during the summer. I bet that would be one of the top 50 photogenic drives in the country.

Sounds like a good free investment.

I fucking LOVE Peter Watts. I just finished off his Rifters trilogy yesterday, and it makes me giddy. I adore how he uses 1) real science, 2) doesn't punk out on his dystopia, and 2) turns mental illness into postiive (though flawed) character traits.

How can you not dig someone who makes a PowerPoint slideshow explaining the biological basis for vampires, their evolutionary history, and...

My eye has certainly become keener over the seasons. But I also danced a bunch as a kid, so I suppose it's ingrained in me to some level. Not everyone is an expert on everything. wink

I'll have to check Peter Watts out. I'm always looking for new authors.

My computer is in the shop getting repaired. Again. Dead iSight this time. So I'm hijacking the wife's computer.

I'm headed back home today. We're also buying a car soon. I have a date for my defense.

I have to go to school this morning to discuss "final things" with my advisor. He's leaving for the summer. Not really sure why this conversation is necessary....

Formality, or formalism, may be the point.

Good luck smile

Thank you. I'm doing fine.

And moving on is a bitch in many ways, it would seem.

Honestly, I'm really not up too much.

Confused. Up too much? As in, sleeping a lot? Or "not up to much", as in, not doing anything?
madscience:
When do you start your new job?

Wow. Summer showed up, just like that.

Yeah, he does it with a particular toy. We'll see if it holds up when he gets older.

Too many late nights (mostly on SG...). Too much alcohol. Too much internet. Not enough get-up-and-go. New workplace, in town. Trying to lay a new floor.

Net result, I haven't been out birding since late March. Again.

Success! We found a really fantastic place in Helena. The guy is looking for a July 1 signing date (which is perfect for us). The rent was nicely in our budget, with a few extras tossed in. It's a brick duplex, with a basement. It's a two bedroom, with washer and dryer hookups and storage space. We even get one bay in a garage. It...

As a biologist, I would say something about "different components to fitness" rather than utility function. But I got your drift, fer sher.

Hm. I'd start with Easter and Gone Again.

So I'm printing like a mad man. I spent the last few days looking for the dissertation as a complete document. I think it basically works. It works enough.

As the motto of the done dissertation goes:

Perfect is the enemy of good.
Good is the enemy of done.

Variations include:

There are two kinds of dissertations: perfect and done.

So there you go. I'm...

Star Trek is great. Like really really great. I've never been a huge fan, but the new movie makes me want to check out the old series and everything.

Paranormal State (on A&E) is the show I most love to hate, out of all the shows on TV.

For those somehow missing out on this *awesomeness*, the show is a reality series that that catalogs the cases of a paranormal investigations outfit. Their leader is, ostensibly, a UPenn student that was haunted when he was younger. He now leads a team that goes...

Franz Ferdinand is a really fantastic live band.

My weekend is packed: department party tonight, friend's birthday tomorrow, and then I need to do some shopping Sunday. Whew.
