A friend of mine is a pilot and offered to take me on a flight in his plane last weekend! My first time in a small plane.

This was quite a spiffy, high-tech plane. He owns a share of it along with some other pilots. Here is a shot of the cockpit controls.

He decided that we should go to Vulcan - no, not that one

@tyrande they even had a visit from Leonard Nimoy a few years back.
tyrande:
@punkfan that's really neat

I just went to my local independent bookstore and picked up a few interesting books.

Trout Mask Replica is the story of the record album of the same name by Captain Beefheart. Very avant guarde and definately not for everyone, but one of my favourite albums. This is part of a series of nearly 100 books about seminal record albums. A History of Violence is

Great finds! Please let me know how you like (or don't like) Incredible Numbers and A History of Violence.

I had a very hard day at work yesterday. I had to tell my team that we were restructuring and that we would be reducing significantly, and that many of them would be affected. It was a horrible feeling. Looking around the room, many had a look on their face best described as looking like their dog just died.

I have mentioned my special friend...

Ahhh, I'm sorry you're going through such a difficult time and that you had to be the bearer of such bad news. So many *tight hugs* for you. <3

I'm happy  your special friend is there for you (especially in your hour of need)!! Sometimes holding hands is enough.
punkfan:
@adelina thanks for the hugs! I really appreciate it, especially from you. It is as good as the hand holding. I wish we could hug in person!

I found this on the weekend and just finished putting it together...

Fun to assemble, but over too quick!

@adelina first thing I do when I log into SG is to check your page for new posts or updates. It is my favourite place!
adelina:
Aww, whoaaa... Well, now I feel like I ought to update more for you. I'm sorry I'm slacking lately. Where oh where shall I find some blogging spirit?!

Today is National Record Store Day here in Canada. All the record/CD stores had sales on, lots of munchies, and several had performers. Lots of fun, I usually haunt used record/CD stores almost every weekend! here is haul for today..,

A good representation of some of the music I like.

This will bring my collection to 930 albums, about 13,000 songs. Here

@adelina yes, it is alphabetical by artist, also broken down by major categories - jazz, classical, soundtracks, everything else (rock, folk, electronic, psychedelic, alternative, punk, ...)
punkfan:
@adelina it seems like a lot, but I have been on other sites where guys compare the size of their ... music collections. The record holder had 300,000 songs. It would be impossible to have listened to all that, I think some people collect just for the sake of collecting.

I just finished the Lego Avengers Helicarrier!

I think this has been my favourite model so far. Certainly it has been the largest, at 3000 pieces! I was able to stretch out the assembly over a week. The downside with Lego models is that a lot of the fun is in the assembly, so it is always a little bittersweet once they are done.

Hehehe. YES! Extroverts should just fuck off. ;-) reclusive anti-social awkward homebody twinsies! <3 !

We left Maui a couple of days ago, it now seems like so long ago!! As we were heading to the airport, we came across this guy ...

Not something you see everyday, but typical of the easy-going ways on the island.

I spent a day at Little Beach, the clothing-optional beach. I have decided I really like this, something about being naked in public making

We have a few more days left - so happy we went for a longer holiday! Here are a few more photo...

This one is a panorama from the balcony...

It is so peaceful here in the evening , there is nothing like going to sleep to the sound of the waves. All the work crap from back home has melted away.

@adelina thanks for asking!  Not too bad, I have been able to ease back into it. It was really good being away for so long, I feel well set up for some big stuff coming up at work.  Thanks on the photos! These are my iPhone pics, I have a lot more on my camera whihc I still have to sort through.
adelina:
The iphone pix look stunning. I remember when 2 megapixel cameras were the norm.

I'm happy you made a smooth transition back into normal life. <3

We went hiking at La Perouse Bay today, the site of the last eruption in Maui. The landscape here is quite dramatic and otherworldly, I kept thinking I was hiking to Mount Doom. This photo gives an impression - the boulders are huge, the size of cars. There were many square miles of this lava field.

There were some cool rock formations at the waters edge

Hahahaha!! There is no hidden meaning behind the Little Beach name. // yes, very mordor-ish and mount doom-ish.// nude bodysurfing, so rad! good luck on your pursuit of an even tan.

Ps beautiful photos (again!)

We spent yesterday at Haleakala Crater at an altitude of 10,000 feet. Spectacular! Here is a shot...

Today we are longing on the beach. Here is the view from the chair...

The hills in the distance are small volcanoes, the site of the last eruption to occur on Maui, a few hundred years ago. There are some cool otherworldly lava fields just past these

Lovely beach. Time to rest your toe-sies if you were hiking all day yesterday...
punkfan:
We drove up! Howecer,me saw many people cycling up. We met one woman who had been cycling up from sea level for 6 hours,,and still had a hour to go. Most people take a shuttle and ride down! @adelina

I went snorkelling for over 90 minutes today! Forests of coral, fantastically coloured reef fish, lots of sea turtles. I ended up, stranded on a beach when the wind kicked up making it impossible to swim back, so I picked my way back along the shore. My wife got quite worried, and they were starting to search for me when I showed up.

We went...

Beautiful photos, as always. <3 "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" never fails to bring a tear to my eye too. Aren't we a couple of over-sentimental saps?!? ;-)

I am really enjoying my down time in Maui. Here are some photos from the breakfast table of the koi pond at the resort ...

It appears the heron is eyeing something in the koi pond, but the goldfish look like they could eat the heron.

I came across the following shop later in the day ...

Unfortunately the shop was not open yet - Paradise Lost!
