How have I not seen Moulin Rouge before today? It has everything look for in a cinematic fairytale; it's creative, inspired, there's nothing quite like it out there, and it was obviously done in the voice of human being. So much of what is out there could have been churned out by well-programmed computers, but this movie speaks to feelings only someone who's felt them...

So I've been doing some thinking. I know, I know; it's not the best way to start a journal entry, but bear with me... I went away for a short vacation not too long ago and found myself pretty happy during those days. However, when I came back I was quick to sink into the same pit of unhappiness I hadn't really even realised I...

I just watched Titus again, and I must say it's much better the second time around, as with most of Shakspeare's works. On first viewing only the sum of the plot was apparent to me, but having seen it again the depth becomes apparent. How it comments on pity and revenge and what justice really is (and how it is meted out). I'll have to...

Othello is actually based on an Italian opera. In the opera the character Othello has no name, he is always refered to as "the moor" or something along those lines. I think it is unfair to say that Shakespeare was racist, or at least to base it on Othello. I have never had anything in any of his plays jump up and shout "hey, I'm a racist bastard".

But was Othello a villian? I have always thought of him as the victim.

Titus was great, I loved the way they handled the rape scene, it could have been so cheesy, but the way they filmed it worked really well.

So, I just watched Titus and I really enjoyed it. As well as some terrific performances, it was really well done all around. The story was simple enough, but I always like to see the villainous, plotting, scheming, murderous, cruel people get theirs in the end. There is nothing quite like justice being served, in my book.

Also, I should (knock on wood) be signing...

The Deerhunter is a rather intense movie. It's a shame they don't make 'em like that anymore. Also The Devil's Playground is an interesting documentary which I highly recommend.
burnouttherich:

There is a battle for your soul occuring right this minute (assuming you're one of the 160,000 people who have one and will therefore be getting into Heaven in the next few minutes as the Apocalypse concludes). So the big question is: where do you stand?! Are you an implement of the Devil, or are you (God bless you) one of those few who stand...

I had a long day, but I figured out where my missing food cost percentage has been for the last six months, so I guess it was worth it.

My depression went far far away, too, which is good. I hate it when that happens.

Is it wrong to think of yourself as a failure if you've never found success in any of the things that matter most to you, even if you've been fairly successful in things you never did care much about? And what does this say about me?

I'm tired of feeling discontent and watching happiness slip away for no apparent reason. I realise there are and...

I watched Hands on a Hardbody today. Who'da thought you could make a good documentary about a contest like that? Yet they did. Also I'm starting to think my time has come, I'll see how I feel by next week, but... I'm losing interest. Just not a people person I guess.

Yesh, a day off. It's like a holiday: just one day out of life. It will be so nice. What, oh what, should I be doing with these precious twenty-four hours? Not drinking, you shay? You are correct, for I had plenty to drink last night. But what else? What else?
