LOLITA
I just came across an old journal entry about my reactions to starting the book, Lolita. I had already seen the '97 movie, which I loved and loved and loved, and I was anxious to see if the book digested as easily as the film.

Well, I think if you're not used to the sort of theatricality and rather stagey sort of acting that old movies have I wouldn't expect you to relate as well to Kubrik's version at all. The '97 one stars Jeromy Irons, right? I think he's a GREAT actor ( see "reversal of Forune"!), but I liked James Mason in the role better. It's true the Kubrik version is less sensual, and I like it as it is, but there were restrictions at the time it was filmed - in fact what little was there was considered quite scandalous. But that doesn't mean you should like it better.
I guess whichever you see first probably has a lot to do with it as well, so I'm not offended. I like disagreeing with people, especially if we get to discuss it. Next time I come across the '97 version I might watch it again and with a less critical eye.
But really, you shloud try watching old movies more - you're missing out on so much!
Thanks for being honest (and for giving Mr. Petty the respect he's due -
after Phish?)!

Oh, and yes, Sue Lyon is "flat", but to me that hightened the irony of her and Humbert's relationship. But hey, that's me!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
There is snow on the ground. There is snow on the trees. Hell, there's snow still in the air. What makes you think I'm going to sit here and talk to you any more than I have to? Titties? Damn.
No.... snow.... must go play.....
I'm off to be a snow bunny,

Yeah, as corny as it sounds, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintnance has got to be one of my all-time-favorite-read-the-most-times book. Just some of the things the author has to say are amazing to me. There are pages in that book i've read over and over again.
Anyhoot, thankyou for the compliment. Compliments are always nice, especially coming from someone as as alluring as you.
And God.....
blue swirling dark music, nights with no plans that spiral out of control and always end too soon, a toke and endless conversation, open minds, finding art and beauty in the most ignored corners of life, roadtrips, MOUNTAINS!
you took the words right out of my mouth!

By the way, what does ...and indeed, you should change your profile picture to better suit you. mean...?
I need a show of hands.... who thinks it's acceptable for me to put Tom Petty on my list of favorite musicians? I just want to make sure the powers-that-be won't kick me off the site for crazy taste.

Own personal sonic avatar, eh? I knew you were an english major!
I would've gone with you, but I don't know that I'd've stayed through Dylan.
My band has learned a couple of his songs:
Refugee (too obvious)
Don't Do Me Like That (a possible keeper)
The Waiting (we don't make it sound so good)
We try to punk it up a bit but his early songs are pretty raw and bare-bones already.
Now if only I could find a personal sonic avatar....
Maybe it's Ray Davies this year....
You can check out our latest homage to him
here.

What? There's no French club in Indi?....and how does someone get to study so much French in Europe? Dad in the Army perchance?
As for me, it's not that I speak Swedish as much as the Swedish screws up my French.
As a Canadian living in Australia, I seemed to always find myself hanging out with Scandinavians. I've also spent a few weeks in Sodertalje and Oslo. Over time I picked up some basic Swedish langage.
My French is so bad that when I came home and when someone started speaking to me in French I would find myself asking them (in Swedish) to speak slower becasue I couldn't understand them. aargghh!
Long story short, I speak little of both, write even less and bastardize both all to hell.
Holy fucking life story....sorry.

i'm a total nerd but i feel like joining the club of nerds who are out to tell the world... Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet" deserves to be on DVD! it's four hours of frigging inTENSE iambic pentameter. i mean, this guy had me pinned to my seat in high school - dagger to his temple questioning the merits of living in suffering over courageous uncertain suicide......

What girls?
An orange on the table,
Your dress on the rug,
And you in my bed,
Sweet present of the present,
Cool of the night,
Warmth of my life.

sex is best with snow falling, lights off, candles and that other-worldly orange glow coming from outside, two (or more!) warm bodies sliding around each other under the sheets
or else in summer...

Hi back!! And welcome to the site btw!!
My old poetry study on sensuality seems appropriate here:
Desire in Costume at a Masquerade Ball
I
we watched
between the feathers
of our disguises
as the raindrops outside
drew together on
the hot pavement in
cooling pools
(inclination)
the way her collar bones
rocked forward
like a cradle
the way she clutched
the clear stem
of her glass
the way her thin
strap slid...

I'm so angry and frustrated that I need to vent for a moment here. It has a lot to do with the fact that self-righteous so-called-normal people feel the need to impose their own f-d up moral codes on individuals they deem not-so-normal. I know that OnceUponATime I was one of those so-called-normal people with the so-called Gospel on my side, but now I'm operating...

i'm having trouble with my picture it keeps getting stretched out, i think i'm going to have to draw one instead. i'mgoing to go watch a dvd with the boy now, i wrote you an email, too. did you check out my favorite ladies?
Just getting started. I've been a fan for awhile, but I'm finally a card-carrying member. Yay! (p.s. is there a petition to get the tour back to the midwest? that was an awesome night...)
we are all cause in our own lives...
reality as we used to think of it, is an illusion and thought is reality.
i am not sure that all makes sense... but that is the basic idear... and i've found proof in my life...
the trick is... to cause your cuteness to appear over here...
1. Make dinner naked, or nearly-naked.
2. Go to the bathroom with the door open.
3. Masturbate in the living room.
YEAH FREEDOM!
