Well it's been a damned good week. Saw The Decemberists this past Tuesday--that was terrific. They put on a fun show. I believe I even danced a little jig during "The Mariner's Revenge Song."
Friday I got my picture in the Sun Times for the play I'm in. That was cool (in a completely vain way)--I could get used to this good press thing. And,...

Thanks to everyone who posted on/around my birthday! I was pleasantly shocked by the record number of posts.
My birthday was great, thank you very much. My play opening went really well. SG lovelies Olsen and N were kind enough to attend. I went to an opening night party after where a bunch of people came up to me and told me how great I...

I wish I was in Portland just now. I think it's partly because I went to college there and it got stuck in my brain that the end of summer means going to Portland. And of course partly because I very much miss all my Portland friends. And you know, while I'm thinking about it, I really wouldn't mind going to the Devil's Point or...

Oh, and Portland is just a plane flight away.
Well, I have to say I had a lot of fun on recon trip to Los Angeles. I like L.A., but it's very... different from what I'm used to: so spread out, very few places with the "neighborhood" feel I'm used to from Chicago and PDX. Also, there was a disturbing lack of bars. Where do people go to hang out and run into friends?...

Portland is good.. But I suspect it misses you. It keeps yelling your name on the wind.

Speaking of making out with Emma...
Heading to Los Angeles today for a little recon of my future home city. First trip to California ever, if you can believe that.
Nixon says I should go to Bar Sinister--but damn it, all my latex is at the cleaners!

You should wear a dark suit and tie and a cute fedora. Perhaps with a red kerchief sticking out of your poket. Yes. That is good.

Haha. Are you back? How was it?
So, I'm evidently still an actor. Auditioned last night for a play in town and got the call that I was cast today. Sweet! Just doing the audition yesterday reminded me how much I like performing. I can't believe it's been this long since I've been in a play. Well all that's gonna change when i hit the stage in this little Cherry Orchard-meets-Brideshead Revisited-costume...

My favourite taco place in LA is Yucca, on Hillhurst Ave, just south of Los Feliz Blvd. This is all a bit north of Hollywood, easy to find
Also, there's a Mexican restaurant over there on Hillhurst called Mexico City that's pretty good
If you have the budget for expensive eats, try sushi at Shibucho (Beverly Blvd I think), or Italian at Angelini Osteria (definitely on Beverly Blvd). Reservations are a good idea
For the glitzy, velvet-roped nightlife try the Forty Deuce on Melrose Ave. They do a couple of burlesque shows a night, 9pm and 11pm, I think, and the dancers are actual dancers, not strippers. Cool little jazz combo plays for them, and the shows are great. Drinks are expensive, but that's Hollywood for ya.
The Derby on Los Feliz Blvd sometimes has some cool events going on as well.
For something more divey, try the Scene Bar on Colorado St in Glendale (just northeast of the Hollywood / Los Feliz area). It's your standard dirty rock bar that does a lot of shows and rock club nights
That's all I got for now ... but Hell, I don't live there yet so it's not too bad.

Sweet! Can I be in your antorage or however you spell it when you hit the big time?
I do not consent to be searched.
OK, well maybe I do... but just for fun let's pretend I don't.

I am red like the lobster, the result of a day on Lake Michigan with my mom, my brother and his family. It was surprisingly fun despite being terribly, terribly wholesome.
So I recall once hearing of a French nobleman in the 19th century who would walk his pet lobster down the Bois du Bologne in Paris. When asked why he kept a lobster, he...

On a completely tangential note, I love lobsters. Its a strange obsession. So, therefore, a random lobster piece of trivia for you from many years of Bug research. If you cut a lobsters eyes, they will immediately shed their shells.
hansel:
I know the secret of the sea.
There is something not right with my body chemistry today. Everything feels very... frustrating.
Bleh.

So, alter the body chemistry then.
yumchen:
I love the elliptical thing. It says I can elliptical way further than I can run in real life. Oh and I think beer also helps with the body chemistry things.
The two best parts of the Pride Parade were the float with the giant confetti-belching volcano and the cop that serenaded the crowd with "A Place For Us" through his car's megaphone. Hysterical.
Things are happening: some good, some stressful and some sad. I should have more time at work soon which I plan to put towards updating my SG journal more regularly.
