At some point in the day, I tried to create a new internet meme by randomly telling people that Scott Baio would rise again. It didn't get very far. I'm pretty lazy.

You should prophesy the return of JDM. That would go over nicely.

Do you normally store peanut butter in the freezer?

My day wasn't as lollipops and ponies as I thought it was going to be, and I was absolutely ineffective. I cried a bit, but I cry a lot for how hard I can be. I was reminded that I still have some niggling human vulnerability, but that diminishes.

However, I survived and had some chicken fried steak. Even the bad days aren't really that...

"lollipops and ponies"? I freaking love you.

Yeah, I'm feeling the crying tendency too, but for me it's cause I can't talk or breathe through my nose. I bet chicken-fried steak would help with both of those, though.

Winter blows.

I look up from writing tomorrow's to-do list as something exceptionally pretty by Yoko Kanno begins on iTunes. The end of my Montblanc pen taps absently against my lip as I think. I set the pen down gently and take a handful of sour dried cherries and raw cashews from the bowl on my desk. I chew them slowly savoring the taste before washing them...

Snow days or unused electronics somehow always lead to me muttering shit like, "How can I not have a 6-pin male to 4-pin male firewire cable in this damned box?" Today was both, so I muttered to beat the band.

Five days off, ample monetary resources, no responsibilities, and what will I likely do?

Nothing, and with luck it'll be all I hoped it could be.

See you kids on the other side.

I'm considering buying a Sony Reader. It seems to be the perfect confluence of everything I love: books, hemorrhaging-edge gadgetry, environmentalism, and design.

Plus, it would be way easier to lug around in a carry-on bag than half a dozen books.
sugar_on_asphalt:
What an awesome idea.

And you're right, it's not a bad life. Especially now that my dad's out of the hospital and in good shape again. This weekend started out pretty horribly though.

*hug*
trevallion:
but that takes away the magic of going to the book store and picking up way more books than you intended on getting.

When I was younger, I would tell friends having crises of confidence that if they couldn't believe in themselves, they could believe in me and we'd get through it together. I don't say that anymore. I'm not sure whether it's from growing up or growing tired.

In conversation, I realized today that I have nothing in my apartment that I'd be embarrassed for anyone to discover. No bongs or sex toys or pictures or porn. I feel oddly deficient.

What about you gentle reader? If you were to die tonight and your mom had to clean your home out, would you be embarrassed for her to find anything you own?

I...

Well, let's just say I hope Randy and I don't die together.

I don't think my mom would be too horrified, although my mother-in-law would be an entirely different story. I guess I have one of those "cool" moms. And by "cool" I mean "drinkin' buddy".

Sitting at my desk writing fitfully, I listen alternately to Pink Floyd and the tapping of cold November rain...life is ridiculously sublime when you accidentally quote Guns 'N' Roses lyrics.

I find that I'm still very good at my job, but I don't much care about it. I've always found the most amazing comfort in fatalism. I don't have any submission in my soul, so...

The subtitled version was pretty cool because they make the subtitles sort of interact with the dialogue and the action. It's hard to explain but it keeps the subtitles from taking away from what's going on.

I've been subject to that odd sensation that I get from time to time: the realization that despite my best efforts to the contrary I have a pretty good life.

Sitting on my couch with some decent tandoori takeout, I felt slightly out of body for a second. I thought about everything...well the everything of things that matter to me. I thought about the interesting...

I don't think I ever called you predictable. Just, you know, for the record. smile

And I know you're aware that it's only because your life is generally so comfortable that you're able to stress over dropping money (that you know you have) on something big and shiny.

We could all use that reminder from time to time. In my last comment I didn't thank you for bringing that thought to the forefront for me, but...yeah. Thank you.

(Oh, and you can thank this guy for the daily booty shots.)

YOUR personal time musings? I beg to differ, sir.

Sitting in my apartment, looking at the internet, and trying to forget the several thousand dollars of TV still in the box behind me, I finally caved and decided to attempt hooking the spare Mac mini to the new hotness. I rummaged around my apartment looking for a VGA cable, and for once, I didn't actually have the exact cable I needed. Anyone that's ever...

I spent a lot of money this weekend--say...50 times what I spend in a normal weekend. Now I'm sitting here listening to Echo and the Bunnymen and desperately hoping I'll sleep soon.

I've been on the edge of a panic attack for about five hours now. I really don't like spending money, and this isn't a necessity. That said, a very astute observer said that...
