I am sure with your parents situation ontop of his, ontop of whatever other things are going on in his life.... it could very possibly feel to him like his life is laughable. With that sort of attitude its easy to be all negative like he has been.
Some people realize the importance of family during times like this.... i guess instead he chose to use your family because he dosent want to see the love right now... pretty much just wants to see the hopelessness that he wants to be right about.
Course this is just my opinion... and i say it here cause i wouldent want him to accidently read this on AIM or somethin but i definatly wanted to show you i was listenin
