Enough of that negative/whiny blog, here's a new and improved one.

I'm going to New Orleans! I have yet another conference there, and this conference pretty much sucks. I don't really know anyone who goes to it, and I'm usually interested in maybe 1 of the talks. The only reason I'm going is b/c it's prestigious to...

Dude! I just found my next vacation city. The wife and I love ghost tours AND she's a pharmacist?!?!? We've always wanted to do NoLa, but yeah, now it sounds imperative.

Also: I feel the same way about ghosts that you do about psychics. My wife wants to stay in a haunted hotel at some point - but I figure, why tempt fate?

stcyr:

Aye, the paddock is a much more upscale and palatable (for me at any rate) form of derby insanity. Glad you enjoyed it. I think you should have a julep or two, just for nostalgia.

MadScience is brilliant, witty and absolutely fabulous! I feel smarter just being on her friends list! wink I've had so much fun getting to know her and really hope to crack that super secret identity of hers one day and get the chance to meet her in person. Oh, the havoc we could wreak upon the world! biggrin

I dont think Ive ever told you about my horrendous eyesight. Im legally blind without glasses, and my vision can only be corrected to 20/30 or so, although its only 20/40 in my right eye. Plus I have congenital cataracts that havent gotten big enough to be taken out yet, and they interfere with my vision. You can call me Ms. Magoo. wink

Well, I'm pretty blind too. Not that blind, though wink And be assured: The new layout sucks also when you can see properly!

Sorry I've been a bit negligent about SG lately. But there was more interesting stuff to do and the new layout didn't really help my motivation ... whatever

Life at my side couldn't be much better! Got all that job part sorted out, summer started and the World Cup is marvelous!

Yeah, there is a certain female someone I should be a bit more assertive with. But I'm at it ... already tonight. Will keep you updated biggrin

kiss

zode:

I hate the New site as well...

MadScience is a great visionary genius who will (with her partner in crime, of course) take over the world, soon! wink

She really is a very intelligent, enlightened being who attracts the most fascinating types of people! She is definately worth checking out, as you never know what wonderful things you will discover with her!

I am happy to report that my talk went really well, hooray! smile Thanks for all of the encouraging words. I generally like giving talks, usually, but the audience for this one was making me nervous. But luckily I got in my presentation groove right from the start, and I think I slipped up with only one "um" (gotta watch those). The Q & A period after...

Have you randomly wandered by his office/lab? Even if he isn't there, you might get a clue from decorations, etc. as to personality that you might use to break the ice.

Is there a party coming up that you could drop by and give him an invitation. (That worked for me smile )

Good luck...

Giving talks is a large part of my job. I usually dont get very nervous about them, and I often dont rehearse beforehand - I know my research subject area pretty well and have usually given some version of the talk before. Well, tomorrow I have to give a talk to a large audience that will include pretty much EVERY SINGLE BIGWIG who is SUPER IMPORTANT...

I hope the talk went well. As a professional natural philosopher, I know the feeling... I'm certainly chanting give MadScience the money, give MadScience the money, give MadScience the money . . . and will offer some libations to the Science Gods, but I fear the next few years are going to be pretty tough over all on the funding front.

In the meantime, the porn empire sounds like a great idea. I'd be happy to help find novel distribution channels.

Apparently the pharmacy gave me Placebo Allegra instead of the real stuff. Full-on allergies here. In fact, at work someone said "you look tired." Great, thanks, EXACTLY what I wanted to hear when I was planning to meet someone 11 years younger tonite. God, how is it that he's 11 years younger?? I certainly don't feel that much older than 24.

BUT! I...

Craigslist update . . . But first, since I have pledged my sugar mama luv to MrStars, we are hereby renaming Bachelors 1 3, Bachelors 2 4. wink

Ive met Bachelor #4, aka Mr. Homebody! We got together for drinks before we met up with our respective friends last nite. It took us a while to find our conversation groove, but we finally clicked when we started talking cars...

There is a picture of me in my dads boat, when I was three or four, watching the ponies swim across the channel. Ill have to pull it out of the parents archive. Misty of Chincoteague was my favorite book as a young kid. When you get your grant, and you will get your grant, shall we go to the beach together? wink
Thanks for sharing the luv, I can use it right now. blush

The world may never be the same if we joined forces in the Crescent City. We would have to take separate planes in though, if they caught wind of our diabolical plan they would surely quarantine the entire French Quarter and shut up Bourbon Street tight.
What dates are you traveling there?

Did I mention you look extremely alluring in your profile pic? Your antenna are the perkiest I can recall, your Quarks really have me quaking. Im sure you hear this from all the boys.

Update time!

1. I heard from the ex (of sorts) that I extended the olive branch o friendship to! We were pretty much friends with benefits until he blew me off. Apparently, he wanted to be more than FWB and it had become apparent to him that that wasnt going to happen. In his email, he said he liked x, y, and z about me...

I wish I had seen this editorial in the Scientific American on April Fools Day, I would have posted it then. The SA editorial was mentioned today in a NY Times editorial about the proposed academic freedom laws. The current political climate really, really scares me. So on that note, heres the update on my NIH grant.

But a little background first: Its much more...

REJECTION! It looks like the olive branch o friendship is being rejected by my ex. Maybe hes taking the whole weekend to mull things over, but it doesnt look promising. Oh well, disappointing, but not that big a deal. Here are a couple of much worse, sex-related rejection stories for your reading pleasure . . .

1. A friend of mine was getting married in a different city...
