Hmm feeling confused!!

Let's see what you think...

In Oct 2008 I signed up for a volunteer mentoring project, I was unemployed at the time and wanted to boost CV. I signed up to 1 hour a week with a child for a 12 month committment with a youth club in Bolton. I was only allocated a child 2 weeks ago, the child doesn't even...

It seems they're not pretty good at keeping their part of the bargain. You should be proud of yourself for seeing the positive sides of the kid in all this. Maybe you should have a word with the project people to at least cover your costs, since that wasn't part of the deal. It does seem like you're making a real difference for that girl.

my co-ordinator is meant to ring me each week but she hasnt done this week yet...i'll talk to her then. i wonder what they do with the mentors that don't drive...there must be some kind of alternative transport arrangements that dont include me doing 36 miles - i can get to work and back 4 times for that!

I think my job gives me a really warped sense about the world.

Got a case in today, 14 yr old boy rapes a 12 yr old and 9 yr old repeatedly. They were his sisters....and I wasnt shocked.

That's wrong...
littleviking:
Not necessarily - I think you may just be professional about it. We need people to do the job well that you are doing, and you need to find a way to survive it and be able to not involve emotions.
In a previous job I also had to sometimes deal with criminals in jail, either convicted or awaiting trial. There were a couple of pretty bad people there, but it was not my job to judge them. I was doing my job, and by making sure that they got a fair trial I did my part that they could get the sentence they deserved. But if I had had to measure up the sentences I think I would have had a much harder time.
The only case that got to me was someone of very limited mental capacity, who clearly wasn't able to understand what was going on and why. Prison was the last place on Earth that made sense to put him.
kimono:
Hmm yeh got one of those too, i'm hoping he'll be sectioned, he's autistic and does know he's done wrong but prison doesnt seem appropriate.

Today, for some reason I am missing Lancaster and feeling pretty lonely so far away from my friends. Dunno why...thought I'd got past being homesick! I have been distracting myself with DVDs and so far have watched Brick Lane and Harry Potter smile Couldn't get 2 more different films!
toi:
I still get homesick all the time.. sometimes something completely random will remind me of home and just put me in that homesick funk.. Movies and knitting seem to be my distraction!

Hey guys,

Very sorry not blogged in ages....!

I've bought a car, I move house next week, I have been assigned a young carer to mentor, I've passed my probation at work and I've split the tendons in my left foot, ouch!!! So...I've not been on the net much.

My housemate when I met her said, nah...I don't go out much, just a night out...

Happy Red Nose Day!!!!

I'm off sick for second day...blergh... puke

Went to fat club last night lost 2lbs, I'm up to 20lbs total now, wee!

Watched Dreamcatcher last night, morgan freeman film based on stephen king book...to me the film missed the point! it glossd over the interesting element of Douglas and spent way too long on the anaconda/alien rubbish bit! Bah!
