I went South for spring break. I notice differences like there are less rules about parking South (park anywhere you want?) and folks drive slow in the left lane of the highways (here, left lane is just passing or driving fast). The area I visited is tall pines with lots of water --- so I felt like I was IN a whole nature scene. Here...

they even show the same car commercials at different speeds! in the East coast they look like their going 80 miles an hour - in the west the same commercial makes the cars look like they're going 50...

17 Girls Movie Review

I watched this French movie about 12 girls getting pregnant in high school --- they were all friends, influenced by a ring leader (the first to get pregnant). The movie was all about capturing that longing for freedom and something different from your parents life, that you feel at 17. It showed the girls desiring and seeking to get at something,...

That sounds very interesting! I haven't watched a good foreign movie in a long time, so I might check this out. smile

Big WINTER day here. For a movie review, I loved the movie FLIGHT with Denzel Washington playing a heroic alcoholic pilot. He captured a sense of powerlessness, the being doomed, the sense of being imprisoned. I was numb for an hour after the movie. The movie has a climax as the pilot has to go to trial/hearing for the air accident. I don't want to...

Nor'Easter is here. Lots of heavy snow now. Music: Cher's Burlesque Musical with Christine Aquilara. Cher's voice says wisdom to me. It is like she is singing "I'm here, deal with it!" (This certainly identifies me as a "geezer".)

I went and saw Les Miz (movie musical) and I thought that every song was special. Today, I heard Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror --- it still resonates, but also eerie remembering MJ. miao!!
light_bringer:
I heard that Les Miserables was good. Yeah, that's a neat MJ song.

Happy New Year to you! smile
oldernow:
I sort of like the music -- loved the book!

I updated my profile --- I was blank ! Now, I come across as boring, but at least it's a start. (My rule of thumb is to assume that what I post could be public info, so I'm not going wild listing what I'm "into".) ...So I'm here exploring for a few more months, learning new things (and old things?) from the young people. I...

I've kinda been there, done that as far as Van Halen goes, but they're certainly a good group. I was thinking that you liked the more mellow stuff, but please correct me if I'm mistaken. wink
joava:
You are correct that I trend towards mellow (my latest listening is Japanese flute!); I listen to the postings in the "my latest obsession" and I can see folks are finding music with lots of amazing energy --- I'd like to put some of that into my day!

It's almost Christmas! And I'm getting "in the spirit"! This morning my horse barn had a coffee and Baileys small party. Today we had snow, so my area nailed the "white Christmas". ... It's a good night for hot chocolate and marshmallows (and a good steamy movie!) RE: SG: I'm interested under the WHAT IS YOUR OBSESSION discussion to find some new music (and meet...

A week ago I went to a play. I think part of the thrill of a play is that moment when the audience is mostly settled in and the theater goes all dark and then the stage comes surprisingly to life. I wonder what it is like to be the actor, doing the same play over and over.

I want to write a play one...

I'm now into MUSICALS/theatre, going to see West Side Story --- so getting excited for the role of Maria and her lover. Last time I saw it, Maria was played by a small 5 foot girl, I like that since I'm a shorty. ... And then there is the hot sister-in-law Anita who has all the fun. Some of the story is dated, too much,...

My Recipe for Sweet Tea: 1. Pick fresh mint and wash (my mint is too close to bird feeder); 2. boil about 1 quart of water and get out 3 or 4 Tetley teabags; 3. Right as it comes to a boil, throw in the tea bags and turn off heat (childhood memory of burning the paper labels on the teabags, with much commotion); 4....
