This is the first entry in a running pseudo-journal I want to start about my job at the homeless shelter. Eventually I'd like to edit it into a memoir book, but for now, I'll post them here in their raw formats, written the night of the events I mention. These are real people I'm talking about, and even though I'm only using first names, I've...

So great, Brother.
So, time to update:
My new apartment is actually starting to look like an apartment as opposed to an interior trash dump, and I have cable and internet again. Just putting my furniture together and getting these contacts to the outside world back has really helped my emotional state. I really miss my ferrets, though. At least I know my ex will take care of...

A poet, eh?
Hoping you have a nice Thanksgiving and looking forward to hearing of your progress on that list of yours.

Thanks for the comment. I know i'm not the only one going through rough (or maybe "confusing" would be a better word) times. Life just seems to have that "when it rains it pours" thing going on lately. I like your list, I think all of those things sound like a lot of fun. Speaking from experience weed, tattoos, and threesomes are all good ideas.
So good luck with your endeavors! If you only complete half the things on that list you are in for some extremely fun times.

I just realized I've been a member here fore 5 1/2 years. When I first joined, I was single, lonely, and just trying to make a connection with people whom I liked and respected. After a 4-year hiatus or so, I'm kind of in a similar spot now. Funny how life works out like that.
I used to post many more blog entries, and I'd...

I've found that revealing my innermost thoughts and feeling in my blogs here have done me a world of emotional good. SG has been an invaluable tool for me that I'm grateful to have been turned onto. Next February will be 3 years since I first joined.
I always enjoyed your writing.

So I really wasn't sure if I should write about this or not, but what the hell. So there's a girl at my shelter who has a thing for me -- and I won't lie, I am attracted to her, but I would never do anything while I'm a staff member there, and I especially wouldn't take advantage of her emotional instability right now. She...

Howdy Champ. Sounds like you care, probably as much as you should, about people you are trying to help. Right/wrong or should have/shouldn't have don't really fit the scenario. I know there are lots and lots of rules and guidelines for behavior of staff at shelters, etc., but the simple truth is that if it were not for people who care and take on that job then there would be no shelter and no one to help.
I was associated with a small battered women's defense group now many years ago and would aometimes be asked by the staff to go and escort a woman and her kids (usually) who was affraid to leave the home and go to the safe house by herself. It was rare that I actually had any feelings beyond my commitment to help out but on two occassions (sp?) I became interested in the outcome and both times the outcome was less than stellar. It hurt, but for me a realization developed that much as I truly wanted to be able to save these people it was not up to me to make the choices that would provide the possibility of a desireable outcome. In short, even when I thought (or felt) it was about me it wasn't about me. Does that make any sense?
Thanks for giving a damn and for what its worth I am proud of you.

Good to hear from you and looking forward to getting back in touch.

I'm drunk, alone, pissed off, contemplating bad things, upset that my ex-girlfriend dropped me and is having the time of her life with fucking everyone while I'm fighting like mad to stave off the tide of misery and awake at ten past 5:00 AM when I have to be at work in ten hours. Also, I bought a knife today to replace the one that...

I hope posting this helps. It helps me to write when I'm pissed off or feeling badly. As a writer, it must be even more so for you.
I've been showing some signs of depression over the past few weeks. My life has been a mess lately; I really want to write down here everything that has happened, but it would be a long post, and I don't have the energy for that right now. Someone keep hounding me to write it all down and I will.
wsoxfan:
I find it therapeudic and cathartic to write things down when I'm troubled. I hope you can get to the point of writing things down soon.
It's good that you recognize that you're showing signs of depression. This gives you the opportunity to possibly nip it in the bud.
You can always PM me if there's anything you feel I can do for you. That's what friends are for.

You of ALL ppl know that writing is theraputic. Wtf is going on, man? Youre like the 3rd or 4th person today thats had the same issue with depression. I think it just happens to all of us when we get around age 30.
Honesty alert:
Yeah, I pretty much got my ass kicked on every level tonight. At work, from both management and residents, in my writing, for going yet another day without one word, and in my social life, where I pretty much got one brief inroad with a girl, only to see that utterly evaporate later on. Go me.

Cubs and O's?
One is screwed because they play in the AL East and the other has a front office full of weirdos. Damn.

Wit ha Sox win yesterday, all is right with the baseball world again. The O's were actually up 2-1 against the hottest pitcher in baseball. They're playing well under Showalter so far.
Those Twins refuse to go away. It's going to be exciting for Sox fans right to the end. The key in my opinion is going to be Edwin Jackson. If he can consistently have quality starts, they'll be okay. It would be a shame if either the Sox or the Twins don't make the playoffs.

Many the mothers in my shelter (including Breonna's mother) were abused as children and had kids too young, and so don't know any other way. When I wonder about what will happen to Breonna after she leaves the shelter, I pray that she won't turn out like that, that she'll have a happy life. But one day she'll leave, I ...probably won't see her again,...

In case anyone is wondering, Breonna is thi 5-year old girl I've completely fallen in love with. I would adopt her at the first chance I had, if I could; I would make sure she went to a great school, was always happy, and never wanted for food, attention, or affection.
wsoxfan:
Kids can have a unique affect on people and cause them to feel things they never felt before and never thought they were capable of feeling. This must be a very special little girl to bring these emotions of yours to the surface.
You have very good reason to be concerned about her future under the circumstances. All you can do is be the best person to her that you can be while she's there and keep your fingers crossed about her future after she leaves. I know that doesn't satisfy you, but that's the way life is.
The Sox look like the real deal even without Peavey. I couldn't believe how bad they were playing until last month. At least it's a 162 game season, so they had plenty of time to turn things around. I predict a classic series coming up in the playoffs between the Sox and Yankees.

I wrote a play. It had a staged reading that went much better than I ever hoped it would. Now I'm trying to get it published and produced. Other than that, a lot of things in my life have kind of sucked recently, but I'm still kicking. Just thought y'all should know.
wsoxfan:
I'm keeping my fingers crossed about your play. You deserve a break, and a breakthrough.
I'm glad you're hanging in there. Besides all the other things in your life that may suck, it must be awful to be a Cubs fan.

So my girlfriend of four years wants to have a "trial separation," or so she told me at 2:30 in the morning when she got home. I was utterly blindsided. My life is falling apart, and on this night, this one night when I don't need to drink alone, I can't get one friend to come out and be with me. Even my ferret just...

Hitting bottom last year was due to so many things hitting me at the same time. Besides still feeling the loss of Annette, I was broke, didn't think I had anyone I could rely on and was suffering from a serious case of loneliness.
Interleague play has something to do with the Sox success. Still, this is the kind of pitching that I thought they had from the beginning. You knew there was something wrong when their most reliable pitcher was Freddy Garcia.
Sorry about the Cubs. I don't think it can get any uglier than last night. I know how you must feel. Just two weeks ago, I thought the Sox season was over and was grateful that the Blackhawks made it a little easier to cope. Now, it looks like the Sox are here to stay.
Who knows? The Bulls may get Lebron, which would probably start another dynasty.

I finally quit Barnes & Noble, after 9 1/2 years (cue "Hallelujah Chorus"). Part of me wanted to stay on just to reach the ten year mark, but another part of me thought that would be even more depressing. I'm working at a homeless shelter now. It's very eye-opening, and...

Yep. 49 slots higher than they took Brady. Which makes sense only for Zoltan.

Also, to continue our conversation on Denard Robinson:
For some reason, this highlight reel omits his 97 yard TD pass to Roy "Snake Oil" Roundtree.
