I'm a fool, and I started another novel, which, like the first one I finished, is going to be part one of a trilogy. I forgot who it was, but there was some author who once said that he did some of his best work on the days when he felt no inspiration and generally found himself wanting to do anything but write, but forced...

My messed up sleeping schedule is really starting to fuck with my body and mind. When I woke up from my nap between shifts yesterday it took me almost five minutes to remember what day it was. 5:00 AM work shifts, followed by a nap, then occasionally followed by a 3 PM to 11 PM work shift? Yeah, it's having an effect.

In other news,...

I have a job that doesn't pay shit, but makes me feel good about myself, and makes me feel as though I'm doing something good for other people. I'm lending a hand to those who really need one. I can't save them, but I can be good to them in a dire time, and be one of those people who comes through when everyone else...

Failures (in dating and sports) are universal. They are the default setting. But that's why the successes are so worth savoring.

That's great about your job. Feeling fulfilled like that on a daily basis must do wonders for your general well-being and sense of self-worth.

Not everyone catches them. Glad you did. wink smile

Organized a mini-field trip for some of the people in my shelter to the CCBC Essex football field today. Six of us played a full-contact game while a bunch of moms and kids sat by with bag lunches and watched. Good times all around. Dinner with my parents later.... If I'm going to get raptured, this is a good way to go out.

Of course,...

Just a note to everyone who wonders why I care so much about Osama being taken down: he authorized the 7/7/05 bombing attacks in London, which, had it not been for a series of random coincidences, could have very nearly killed my sister and which results I saw firsthand. So yes, I give a shit, and I'm not going to mourn him.

Hell, had those...

So it's time to post something positive: I started a writing group at the shelter, and I'm amazed at how well it's gone after only two weeks. It's for the adults, but I've had so many of them tell me it's really meant a lot to them to have someone buy them notebooks and pens, and take the time to sit down with them and...

I've managed to survive too somehow. I never would have believed I'd be in this position at this stage of my life.

Thanks for all your support and kind words.

So in addition to the bullshit I posted in my last blog, I've also recently learned that my car has to be scrapped, I have $8 to my name right now, and my work is moving two of my shifts to the 11-7 overnight; I realized today that the best thing that's happened in the past 48 hours is that my car wasn't towed to...

Sorry to hear this. It's tough to have any words of wisdom when one is not walking in your shoes.

Cross-posted from the Dating Sucks! group:

Dear You Know Who,

When you tell me you want to go out with me, I believe you. Even after you cancelled twice, and I told you straight up that I would stop asking you if you wanted me to and you said no, you didn't want that, I believed you. When I mentioned yesterday -- after yet another...

They most certainly do. But that's what friends are for. To talk to and to get you wasted so you forget about the asshole that acted like that in the first place. I can't get you wasted, but if you want to talk you know where to find me. smile
pax_:
I'm sorry. I have days like that too. I try to see the bright side of things though. And there's nothing like seeing how bad things can be to make you appreciate what you do have. That's generally what keeps me going.

We're all slowly dying day-by-day. I guess the real test is seeing how we each handle this realization.
wsoxfan:
While this may be true, I prefer to handle it as if this wasn't how it really is. If I did otherwise, I'd become emotionally paralyzed.

PLANETARY -- A Story

He doesnt look at her. Eyes cast down, narrowed, fixed upon a small red stain on the gray carpet he had never noticed before. His habit of projecting worst-case scenarios had played this scene out in his head countless times before, but somehow they always involved him finding out on his own, never her confessing to him through choked sobs and...

So one of my questions got answered here (it's the final one). Cool.
wsoxfan:
Unfortunately, I'd need so many people to answer my questions about those things that I'd have to rent out Yankee Stadium.
