This was my vent in the "Dating Sucks" group;

I met this girl Rachel the other night at first Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum. I was meeting friends. I saw her tasting wine so I offered to buy her a glass. I hung out with her a bit as we drank our wine, talked and listened to some live music. I thought she was beautiful....

Wow. Chicks are confusing. surreal
This girl seems kind of high maintenance.
Sounds like a lovely night to me. *shrugs*

Thank you! I got some pretty strong replies from a couple of fellas on the "Dating Sucks" forum disagreeing with my comments on paying for dinner. A dear friend of mine who is basically a feminist also disagreed with me noting the contradiction to her over all world view. My gripe is really in principle; the EXPECTATION that a man must pay, especially if he did not say, "let me take you to dinner" or more explicitly, "let me buy you dinner" This girl suggested dinner and chose the spot, I had to ask her to at least pay the tip. I agree, high maintenance!

I stand on the hem of her dress but she does not acknowledge my presence.

She provides living space; small, intimate though cramped and enclosed, sometimes insular. Many cannot afford to dwell near her bosom, the site of the zeitgeist.

I love her. Yet I agonize the worth of her embrace.

In the time of my early youth--teetering the precipice of adulthood--I was fraught with...

Here's a break from all the food stuff, especially after my obsessive rant on pizza; a blog I want to edit. Anyone who actually reads these, a note; this is a testing ground for my writing. I like to write and have been doing so for a long time. I hope, over time to get the opinions of others as to my ability, a little...

Thank you, I appreciate the input. I never considered cadence though I'm aware of a rhythm in my prose. I never pay attention to it, I let it flow and it feels right; perhaps I may find strength in my writing by paying a little more attention ...

Thanks madam (I don't think you meant to duplicate your comment so I deleted one ...)

Pizza. New York City is known for its excellent quality pizza, it is the hub for American pizza, thanks to an Italian immigrant by the name of Lombardi arriving in what is now Little Italy in lower Manhattan last century. I, a native New Yorker, grew up on this Italian meal of peasants. Today everyone eats pizza. It's no longer just for worker class of...

I had pizza once when I was in NY and sadly I can't remember what place it was :/ I need to take another visit to NY cause there is a lot of food places there I've been wanting to try
jafreeman1:
Well if you're ever int the Bay Area, I highly recommend you try Pizza Orgasimca. They don't do slices like here in New York but Orgasmica is my favorite pizza place out west. Other than pizza there are loads of delicious and cool atmospheric places to eat inNYC; especially in Brooklyn.

"Ingredients" is a film I recently watched. It's a documentary concerning the current state of our industrial food system juxtaposed with a growing local, sustainable trend in agriculture. Most of the focus is in Oregon and California with a turn to New York in attempt to prove that local sustainability works in big cities. In Harlem, a food bank is provided fresh produce from a...

Last week I finished reading Anthony Bourdains "Medium Raw", you know the guy from the Travel Channel, with the show, "No reservations"? He's the snarky, curmudgeon former chef now writer/traveler from New York. He has good intensions and his sarcasm coupled with genuine respect for food and culture is what makes the show great to watch.

His recent book is a good read, especially for...

Thanks for reading ... and yes you should, it's a good book.
amarena:
I own this book and read it when it first came out. Critics complained it isn't as juicy as Kitchen Confidential, but that always bothered me. He has evolved as a person, and I actually found his everyday little insights about his family some of the most interesting. Especially about his saucy wife Ottavia...God I love that woman lol.

And the bit about Sandra Lee is hysterical! I went to see Tony live on his book tour, and his retelling of that was some of the funniest shit I've ever heard!

And even if you don't end up taking that class you should definitely still pursue food writing! Go for it!

I am not completely new to this site. I first discovered it about six years ago but I let my membership lapse. I'm glad to have rediscovered it now. Honestly, I was looking to see some nude photos of women who appeal to me; a respite from the sleezy porn that quenches my primal urges. I had forgotten about the grace and beauty captured in...
