Harry Potter as divisive and racist. Let's see...
1. The importance of your "house". It really doesn't matter what house you're in, because they're all good in different ways. On the other hand, it is the most important aspect of your "career" as a sorcerer, not to mention the intense rivalry between the houses (even though they're all the same!)
Okay they have different houses. Its the same as teams. You try to beat the other team with points and awards and such. The houses all get along with the exception of Slytherin. They're ambitious and sneaky and they don't really get along with anyone. I'm not sure how them having different houses is a bad thing. There are many schools with different teams and such. I think its adds to the book.

2. Why does Harry, a mediocre spellcaster at best, get just about everything handed to him with praise that is just miles deep? (It wouldn't happen to be that he's priviledged and white, would it?)
I wouldn't say its because he's priviledged and white. He killed the most hated and feared sorcerer in the world. So he's famous. Its just like any celebrity. He doesn't roll around in his fame and riches though like most celebs today. He hates it alot of the time since its caused him problems. I in no way see how this point is racist.

3. Why does what'shername, that girl with the weird "H" name have to work so hard to get the tiniest bit of recognition? She's way more talented than most of the other students...(Don't tell me it's because she's a girl, either!)
On the contrary Hermione gets alot of praise and reconigtion. She's always being awarded house points and has been elected Prefect in her 5th year. She gets flack from other students sometimes. But on the whole she is always recognized for her acheivements. She works hard because thats part of her character. Not because she has to.
Plus i'd say there is alot more diversity of people in these books than alot of others. If anyone in the books is racist its Draco Malfoy. And J.K. clearly states her opinions on him. Thats he's a foul little boy.
Maybe your hate for the series lies solely in the merchandising? I will agree there is alot. But to fans of the book its a great thing! I'm not that big on lets say wrestling yet there is merchandising for that everywhere. I just say to each his own.
