I am writing this here to voice my opinion on the subject. I do not want to keep getting roped into posts where I get heated and it ends poorly.
I can't even begin to understand what the parents of the children at Sandy Brook school are feeling, and honestly there is nothing I could say or do that would make this better for them in any way.
Only time will heal their wounds, and slowly at that...if at all.
I have 3 main points to make with this posting.
1. Gun control laws will not stop gun related crime and only affect law abiding citizens.
2. Gun free zones should be abolished.
3. The 2nd Amendment and what it means. (Aka does it cover semi-automatic weapons?)
Point 1. Gun control laws do not stop gun crimes.
This is simply true. Gun control laws and ordinances affect law abiding citizens who own guns and would never dream of using their guns for evil purposes.
Criminals and the monsters that kill innocent people with guns, do not abide by these laws. The shooter at Sandy Hook was 20 years old. In CT, a pistol permit can only be sold to 21 and over. Legally, he would not have a pistol permit, which is 100% NEEDED to own a pistol in CT.
In CT, in order to even LOOK at a pistol (meaning physically inspect and touch) you have to present a permit. That permit involves 3 written character references, and class in pistol safety and lots and lots of fees. Then you wait 3-4 months to get the permit. Your background is checked, you are finger printed. It's a PROCESS.
Obviously that process did not stop him.The guns he used to perform this heinous act were from his mother, and seeing as they found her dead in her home, I would think they were stolen.
I will agree though that it should be a bit harder to get a rifle. As of right now you can walk into a Walmart, give them your info, and wait 2 weeks and walk out with any rifle you can afford.
I can do it in about an hour because I have my pistol permit. Hunting licenses also afford this ability.
But honestly, I still do not feel this will stop gun related violence.
This leads to me point 2.
Gun free zones should be abolished.
Look at the recent shootings. Schools. Churches. Movie theaters. Malls. All zones where law abiding citizens are not allowed to carry a firearm (concealed or otherwise.) I am not saying that more guns are in fact the answer. I am not saying that another person having a gun during these shootings would have stopped ALL the killings, but it certainly would have evened the odds a little if a trained firearm user, be it a guard or a teacher concealed carrying, had been allowed to have a firearm.
The fact that a teacher would even consider carrying a gun to school is another sad state of affairs that shows you the type of world we live in today.
The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun, and good "guys" come in many, many different forms.
Point 3...the Second Amendment.
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"
Keep in mind when this was written, America had just fought a war against a tyrannical government and gained it's independance.
The whole reason behind this Amendment was to insure that if the government ever became tyrannical, the citizens could defend themselves.
Now at the time, semi-automatic weapons did not exist, and the concept would be mind blowing to people used to muskets...but still, the 2nd Amendment covers ALL arms.
Now, I understand something needs to happen to make it harder for crimes like this to happen, and honestly...I don't see it happening.
You can regulate guns until the end of time, and people will still find a way.
Bombs are illegal to own...and yet bombings still occur.
I do not claim to know the solution, nor do I even know if one is possible...
I simply wanted to state my side of this argument.
I am up for debating on this post, but honestly, keep it calm and adult. If you have 30 minutes, watch this. They make a lot of good points.

In recent years, people have used fertilizer, box cutters and airplanes, and other common elements to kill people. So guns, in and of themselves, are not the problem. Their availability may male these actions easier - but it's us, not the tools we use, that is at the heart of the matter.
I've heard this called blamed on us becoming a godless nation, but more murders (and MASS MURDERS) have been committed in the name of God, so I don't think that's it!
Sorry - no answers here, and no argument either. Now I'm going back to looking at pretty nekkid women!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
