In High School,
I occasionally practiced
dressing as a poet,

thoughtful sweaters
and lots of hair,

listening to
lots of bands

with 'Dead'
or 'Death'
in the name. Wore

a black t-shirt
most days.

Camus.
Dostoevsky.
Hesse.

Reading alone.

I drank
two Dr. Peppers
and ate

two scoops
of ice cream
every day,

sat in one of two corners
at lunch.

Usually laughing
or arguing...

that matters...

There's a cop parked down the street. He's been occasionally using his siren. People have to be told to not drive through a flooded creek.

jena:
Thank you. It's only going to get better. This is a momentary thing.

After NY I crash out in Philly. Yay. smile

Dude, what is UP with your "about me"?
gen05:
Lmao.

I say it sounds like California

it is like being there

no it's North Carolina
it's a whole different thing

I see the sign for the Baptist church

the one we've talked about
buying and turning

coffee bar
cinema-draft house
that sign...

yeah I find myself in the same situation now - had to choose between the waves and the city. I'm 5 hours from the waves now, except in winter when the storms blow through here but I need to be here for the moment. And I'm enjoying it. Brighton is a great city. There are plenty of other diversions here Just have to plan some trips when the swell is right... I hope you get into it; the stoke is incredible, sure your girlfriend tells you often enough...

this is nice and dreamy

The lesson I learned from Icarus is this

one splash in the Ocean
is not an event

to me this meant that
no matter how spectacular my failure
the world will probably never notice

when I was younger
this gave me hope

at least I would get a chance to fly

sorchablue:
no... more like it comes running out of me with no control and often with no real sense or reason... quite frustrating in fact... like today, when I cried, truly cried after the end of a show, because it slightly made me feel emotional... but only slightly... O.o;;;

My first morning in Santa Barbara.

On the bench shaped like a whale's tail

before the fence above the cliff

which stands between

the Ocean and I

watching waves

and waiting...

Old sinews of stone inflexible

and unblinking

what have those cliff faces seen?

Two dolphins

I see

almost as soon

as I

sit down

...forever awakening to this moment

finding almost all others gone...

four old men
pot-bellied
two with beards
all of them sitting alone

each had a folder and a book

the image of them in a row
suggested Darwin

one wore sweat pants
one used a walker
one had an awful sweater
one I've almost forgotten

four old men reading poetry
in a coffee shop
in a strip mall

might be me
one day

nah

Yesterday,
it snowed.

She watched from inside.
She hates the cold.

She likes the thick,
white blanket
that covers her front yard.

She feeds the fire
and cracks a beer.

Not smiling, watching the flames
and whispering a mantra:

It's not just another day.
It's not just another day.

She flinches
when she hears
the front door opening.

Never any time...
