So I've been working on a sonnet on this age-difference thing, and I finally finished a rough draft. Not my best work, and still in need of tinkering, but here it is. (And if you're lost, read yesterday's entry for the back story.)

* * *

In joining heart to heart, love must have rhyme
Not in every part, but certain terms must share
Their...

I'll have a full account of the birthday bash once I have the pictures developed and scanned. For now, let it suffice to say that the party was fabulous! As one of my friends put it, "I'll say this for your party - there's going to be a *lot* of sex happening after it."

Personally, though, I've been in one of my pensive autumn moods...

Today: anticipation, as if to balance out the last entry's nostalgia.

Tea and coffee with Mary last night.

A rambling conversation about photography, religion, future plans, the merits of various Austin art galleries, and her friend who is on some kind of bizarre fast in which he eats only Hot Pockets and beer.

It was like the antithesis of all the blind dates and first...

ff-you do have a fantastic way about you. i second echobuny! i forgot to write down the name of that chocolate stout you were having the other night. mmmmm...chocolate stout....

i'm gonna try my damndest to get those mixes done this week. damndest is a word, right? for some reason, it doesn't look right. your new friend sounds like a great find!

The ex wrote me a poem - a villanelle, no less - and sent it to me as a birthday gift.

There's something to be said for knowing someone so well that even though the poem does not mention you at all, she uses the word "rapprochement" in it and you know exactly what she is asking.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a fool for...

ff-i love your writing too, of course.

echobuny's comments hit home for me too. my first love (i was 18, he was 16) still lives around here. we've gone completely separate ways, but when i see him i get this weird feeling and all of a sudden i'm a kid again. wouldn't want to rekindle anything by ANY means, but there's a weird feeling none the less.

if there was a "spark" there with someone, when you come across that person you'll always feel your heart leap a little bit .

i feel like i'm the runon sentence queen. sorry bout that

Yesterday afternoon I had a birthday lunch with my mom. Then we went to see Spirited Away, which I naturally *loved*!

It's *very* bizarre, even for a Miyazaki movie, and I know I'm going to have to see it again to catch all the details I missed. But it's oh-so-magical in that Alice In Wonderland way: fantastically absurd but full of real human emotions and...

Catching up on the weekend...

Friday night I went to the drag show in San Marcos with L and her friends Saralina and Jody. I had been completely oblivious to the fact that it was National Coming-Out Day, so it was a bit of a surprise to learn that the whole thing was also a vaguely vampire-themed celebration ball for all of the Bi/Gay/Les/Tran student...

Hooray for best birthdays ever!

I only wish that i had a halberd, for now. But maybe i'll ask for one for christmas. And then I'll do a Christmas set. It will appear to be innocent, but really I'll be weilding a halberdd theateningly.

But my Diablo II character does have the best halberd ever...

So I invited Mary to the birthday bash, and today I got an e-mail saying "The party sounds really fun. I will have to rush to find a date...or is this the sort of party one is supposed to go stag to?"

Wheee! Calloo, Callay!

I can't recall the last time I've been so elated to learn someone is unattached.

Naturally, I hastily composed a...

"But now that I am Six, I'm as clever as clever. So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever." -- A.A. Milne

OK, actually I am 29. 29 today. Woo!

Last night I flew in from Salt Lake CIty and went immediately to my friend Mary's art opening. Mary, like me, is a photographer. We met about five years ago, when she...

The SLC adventure continues with...SG-SLC Curry-oke!

Met up with TheGil tonight for a night out on the town. Yes, Salt Lake does in fact have nightlife, although not nearly as much as Austin.

Still, Providence was kind enough to arrange a show by a band I'd actually been keen to see in person--the band +/-, featuring James Baluyut of Versus--so we kicked off the evening...

i'm in Salt Lake City.

until the severance/retention bonus that will get me 7 months of salary becomes definite, i'm still taking a hard look at job oppoortunities here in SLC, because if i don't get the severance pay, it would be a good idea to stay employed.

but i'm not really keen to move to SLC.

it does have a few things to recommend...

hi ff! "always look on the bright side of life" *whistle whistle* a little m.p. to throw at ya. i truly hope your life settles soon. slc is a crazy place. the liquor laws alone are enough to make you wonder if they know it's 2002. it is beautiful though-about 6 hours from me. i imagine there's lots of stuff to do there, you may just have to seek it out more (?). hope you can hook up with TheGil. take care!

i went to get sushi yesterday for lunch, and i found myself seated facing the most amazing baby with incredible blue eyes.

she was just laying there facing me, next to a couple who were having their lunch.

for the entire half hour following, except during brief interruptions when her parents twiddled her toes or something, she just stared at me with those amazing eyes....

So my birthday is coming up, and thanks to my rad friend L, I am gonna get a party without lifting a finger. Woooo!

We haven't set a definite date, but it will most likely be the 11th, 13th, 18th, or 19th. Tentative plans include a kick-ass band playing, top-notch drinkies, yummy party treats baked by the lovely L, and a hot tub and a...
