I'm sitting in Houston International Aiport, waiting for my flight to Phoenix, then on to San Carlos, Mexico.

vasily and I are going sailing for a week, and getting an ASA certification, so that we will be able to charter a sailboat anywhere in the world. I'm pretty excited. Hopefully, we can plan a trip in the Med next summer.

Things have been quite interesting...

I apologize to all for not responding to journal comments lately and neglecting my group managing responsibilities. I am still on the road for my cousin's wedding, and then off to Alabama.

In the meantime, this is a story I wrote on the 1 year anniversary of September 11th, 2001. I hope it makes you think.

September 11th began like any other weekday... business travelers...

I went to the Pink Cow.. Traci was cool enough to sit and talk with me for about an hour. Nice girl.. really really cool. I like that little place, but I had to leave soon after as I wasn't feeling well.

Thanks for all the info.. it really did help.

I went to Vegas last weekend to see my cousin and his Croatian wife. We stayed in the Sahara. It was a lot of fun.

I won $100 at craps. I love craps. It is such a social game. You can tell so much about a person by the way they bet. I've been playing for quite a while, and these are the life lessons...

My hands still smell like salt.

Last night I was in Maryland having a crab-eating contest with a new colleague of mine. Between the two of us, we tossed back several salted boiled crabs between pints of Sam Adams. Not a bad way to build rapport with a woman I'll be working with for the next year or so.

Maryland crabs aren't quite as good...

This is another essay I wrote a few years ago, please let me know what you think about it.

The Flaw of Modern Economics

Have you ever stopped and wondered why "things" become more expensive as time passes? Anyone who has heard their grandfather tell stories of how you could buy everything you need for a week with four dollars is aware of the steady...

Im looking for a word and I wondered if you could help me please.

It is a Japanese word that means an ogre born human to protect humans from ogres.
Sounds like Koe-Ie, or like that or something.
The next story has that as a character and I have searched, googled, and trolled databases. I have not been able to find it.
For the love of all things Holy!, please if you could at least point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Interesting essay, I will think on it.

Yes, I have seen Run Lola Run. Great movie. It would be interesting to be able to relive moments and do it differently.
But then, you will always have a different ending.

I went climbing again yesterday. The whole time we were doing to walk on, I had this nagging feeling from last week's experience, but I didn't want to disappoint my second.

This time, it was just the two of us, and I was the more experienced climber. Anyway, we went to Sadia Peak, and hiked down to the climbs. I was leading trad...

If you want your soul back, I hear you can go to Sacramento, where these people practice:

Soul Retrievals

Anthropologist Hank Wesselman and his wife, shaman Jill Kuykendall (sharedwisdom.com) discussed spirit medicine in relation to soul loss & soul retrieval. People can lose parts of their soul due to traumas such as abuse or the loss of a loved one, explained Kuykendall. There are three aspects to the soul spirit, body and mental which roughly correspond with Freud's superego, ego and subconscious (id), Wesselman further detailed.

The missing element of the soul might be found in the "lower world," a protective place that animal and plant spirits inhabit, said Kuykendall. She also named a "middle world," that is akin to the dream state with both positive and negative attributes and an "upper world," a place of divine knowledge that is home to angels and ancestral spirits.

In her work as a shaman, Kuykendall said she enters into the spirit realm by listening to drum beats and then conducts retrievals or repairs for persons who have the sense that they are missing part of themselves or are damaged. She described one case where a man was denied a communion service as a young boy, and in her visit to the spirit realm she was able to sense Jesus' presence carrying the implements of communion for the boy in order to heal him. Kuykendall called the kind of spirit medicine she performs "deep prayer" and said that this type of connection with the divine can work with any religious affiliation. She and Wesselman will next be teaching workshops in shamanism at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY.

I went climbing this Sunday with a new group of folks. I top-roped a 5.11C with a secondary rope, since they wanted the original rope at the bottom. This is pretty standard (for the non-climbers) in which you have one rope you use for leads and another for seconds and top rope. Anyway, I clipped into the sling system and prepared to swap out the...

It's been an interesting week. I taught a yoga class on Thursday, that I think went really well. A teacher I sub for sat in, and she said she enjoyed it.

My backyard work in progressing, but it is hard working in this friggin' heat!

I had a pretty incredible dream/astral projection experience last night. It started with me driving in Japan with my sister,...

Hey! Thanks for checking in...haven't been on the site for awhile. Been in spiritual receiving mode and feel that this site encumbers that process. In my spiritual work I've interpreted that whatever I want from the universe will find me and until I am more experienced to deflect the triggers I receive from checking in on this site and viewing the naked girls optioning out their bodies for money--I have to step aside. (not to mention participating in my tail-chasing of viewing my ex's profile, not checking, checking, not checking. etc.) It is part of my spiritual work to offer empowerment to women and not participate in a forum that keeps them enslaved to a sexual occupation. Whatever opinion may be on the subject, as you know from philosophy group, this is my spiritual teaching and I choose to be awake to it instead of veil it with whatever sort of justification I want to put over it.

Just thought you may appreciate those thoughts....

Please take care of that body of yours...but there is some sort of answer telling me that you are! biggrin

This is something I wrote a while back. Any feedback on it would be appreciated.

Author's Note: DDT, the Drug War, and leaf-cutter ants. How are these things related? They are all the elements of co-evolution, either in a biological sense, and artificial sense, or combination of the two. So what is co-evolution? Read Chuck Darwin, or you can just read my bastardized rendering of...

I think when you control a substance, demand does increase. It's the scarity principle. The same reason toy makers release 'limited editions' and whatnot.

In Europe, where drinking ages are lower, they don't have half the young alcholism problems we have in the states.

Very nice article. And the point is central to our survival--work with nature not against it.

Have you read anything by Lynn Margulis? She has managed to convince most scientists that eukaryotic cells were themselves a product of co-evolution. Fasinating stuff.
