Just curious. Has he ever actually said something funny?
Personally can't say I've heard it he has.

Yesterday, David Mamet passed on directing a pilot I wrote. At the same time, he was extremely complimentary about my writing. That was pretty awesome. Maybe the highest compliment I've ever received.
Today, a moderator on Suicide Girls took the time out of his day to tell me my writing is shit and "sophomoric."
Who should I believe?

Pilot is for tv, screenplay is for film.
I am amused by the many idiots who refer to my articles as "rants." Jesus, at least try with the condescension. What's next, air quotes? It's like calling a couch a table. Rants are what Bill Maher does at the end of his show, what George Carlin used to do and what Bill O'Reilly is so skilled at. One could say many negative things about...

That one guy didn't know the difference between: there-their, your-you're, it-it's. I was more inclined to correct his grammar than respond to him substantively. Besides, he's left like six comments total (I checked) and they were all on that one thread.

Yeah, it kind of went rumble-rumble-rumble-RUMBLE-RUMBLE-JOLT! here. Unnerving indeed.. didn't know if that big jolt was the end or if it was going to get worse. I was kneeling down putting together a cabinet and was starting to stand up when the big jolt hit, and I just kind of knelt back down to see what was going to happen next. Then the dogs went nuts and the whole thing was over.
I was more worried about the stupid flatscreen TV we have sitting on our fireplace mantle because we still haven't got around to putting the stupid earthquake straps on it. Hah.

Go Red Devils!
My baby was born with a mullet, by the way. But it's like an accountant's mullet. A ring around the head, bald on top, that ends in a mullet in the back.
How fucking awesome is that?

You're boy has only just entered the world and already he's ahead of the curve.
I'm told mullets are making a comeback.
We call them slongs in England BTW -- "slong" being a contraction of the words "short" and "long".

I think childbirth is only marginally more painful than supporting Newcastle.

So, when will he be starting writing for SG?
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Okay, at the hospital. Contractions, blah blah blah.
It's going to be a long night and my life as I knew it was over.

Whether or not it stands the test of time (and how the "reboot" of the series) goes remains to be seen.
My assessment is largely personal and colored by the fact that it was exactly the kind of movie I needed to see right about now. Yay familiarity and large things blowing up in really cool ways.

Shouldn't you be off, like, watching your wife have a baby or something?
Or did that happen already? I don't keep track of these things.

It's really good. JJ Abrams managed to make a movie where lot of stuff blows up in really amazing ways without it feeling like a Michael Bay movie. That takes talent.
