Day 6, evening, Letterkenny: 1st half of Altan concert was brilliant, as expected! smile By then, though, I could hardly keep my eyes open, I was so tired, so I grabbed a cab back to the hotel and fell right into bed.

Day 7, Letterkenny: Weather has cleared up, for the first really nice day so far this trip. Crowds in streets, music in the air!...

See you soon enough and the first pint or two (alright pint and a Red Breast) are mine in celebration of you momentous feat.

I'm talking with Sadra and I am sure that had I had teh opportunity to mention she would send her congratulations along as well.

More trip journal updates. I'm reading your comments smile but will likely not make too many direct replies since my Internet time here is costing around 4 Euro/hour.

Day 4, afternoon, Sligo: Stopped in CD store specializing in Irish trad recordings on way back to inn. Another mistake: cost me 75 Euro to get out! shocked biggrin Had a nice dinner later upstairs in a restaurant overlooking the...

Found an internet cafe in Sligo, where I'm typing this. Have pics from trip so far, but posting them will have to wait until I get home.

Day 1, Dublin: Staying in dorm room at Trinity College. Toured the college and saw Book of Kells a second time. In evening, passing by pub across from campus, heard music from within. 3-piece band --- pipes/whistle, guitar,...

This week's Reno News and Review has an article on Slow Djinn Fez, one of the bands that I play in. smile

Tomorrow morning I leave on two weeks vacation to Ireland, where I'll be competing in the Irish National Music Festival, the Fleadh Cheoil na h'Eireann. smile smile smile I'll probably not post here until I get back. Have fun while I'm gone, kids. I know...

Show those pretentious musicians how a dulcimer is played. And the mandolin as well.

P.P.S. surreal I just noticed that you are not in this group. You may find it interesting.

So I presume you play either belly-dance or Irish music. In either case, you would be a great addition to this one. There is also a group for the former, which I appreciated watching in any style, and love listening to the Turkish one especially. What instrument(s) do you play?

Cheers!

You may like this very organized site (It is not one of the first to come with a Google search on "Basho" - and many of those are excellent - probably because it has a Russian major component.)

So the Drum, Dance, and Didgeridoo Festival last weekend was a fucking blast! Belly dancers, fire dancers, our band, our friends in Sol Jibe, the Jave Djembe band, and more and more and more. By evening, Wingfield park was full of people. [The head count at 6pm was 3500! eeek] I should have taken pictures, but I was too fucking busy (and having too much...

Hey thanks. Enjoy Dublin - I'll be in Croatia by then!

Ooh, Ireland - I'm so jealous! I'm Irish (along with some Scottish and English), so I always thought I needed to check it out. Have fun!!

And yes, I totally got married! biggrin I'm in Florida at the moment, but my husband and I are moving back to Reno at the end of September (knock on wood - assuming his job works out). I can't wait - I miss me some west coast!

Thunderstorms today. The scent of sagebrush after a rainstorm has to be one of the best smells in the world: sweet, like a honey perfume.
shivasshakti:
I miss the thunderstorms out west! That's the best smell ever. I thought I wanted to bottle it and use it as perfume, but that would take away the special-ness of it all, I think. smile

Yeah, yeah, I know. I've been bad and not posted anything for two months. It's because I've been a busy little insect. My bands, 3-17 and Slow Djinn Fez continue to play around Reno. I seem to be averaging at least a couple of shows a month lately. If you're a local, or just happen to be passing by, I hope you'll try to catch...

You are far too kind! Thank you so much! And I will keep it up 'til 999 - but as soon as I hit 1000, it's game on! Just kidding...kind of. wink I've learned that there's a lot more to the world than I ever noticed before...like, say, everything! It's almost like being a kid again.

How's the music been going? And are you enjoying the weather? I can't get enough of it!
mrpinstripesuit:
I might be there on Saturday. I have quite a few engagements pressing and it is TR's birthday as well.

The weekend trip to St. Louis was quite successful. At the Fleadh Cheoil I took a first place on hammered dulcimer (in the miscellaneous instruments category) and a second place on mandolin. biggrin Consequently, I'll be going to Ireland again this August, for the Irish National Music Festival (Fleadh Cheoil na h'Eireann). smile smile smile

I also got to watch a Cardinals game, and I spent an...

I love watching baseball!

And congratulations again on your victories in St. Louis!

There might be a small hitch in my ability to be present at your Satellite show. I just might be going down to Davis to shoot some video of another band, Royal Bliss. We shall see how it goes later today.

On Thursday I fly off to St. Louis to play this weekend in an Irish music competition --- a Fleadh Cheoil. smile I've been looking forward to it, but I still have to pack, and I have some bills to take care of before I go. I figure I'll take off from work early tomorrow, so I can get everything done. wink

Wish me luck! biggrin
