I've been thinking about photography a lot lately. But the irony is that I haven't really been shooting. A brief and hopefully not boring history lesson. Before I started shooting for this site my only plan was to build a great relationship with the models on the site in order to use for my own projects and own photography. Ultimately I became staff...

I like that you are questioning what you do! Whenever I read things so personal as this, I feel the anticipation as I read it. I am new to suicide girls, and don't know many people or models on here. I like to look at many different shoots from models, candid, posed, "glamour". But for me, after shooting my first set, I felt RELIEVED. Like I had let go of something. If you asked me if I wanted to call what I had shot glamour, I would say, definitely not. It felt like the photographer had finally captured an inner sexuality, and playful sexiness that I don't get to express (or even see), every day. Having these photos is like having a diary where all of my inner sex kitten is, and where I get to feel free (freer?) for having done a shoot, where I can feel sexy and love myself. So, in no way is it candid, but its also not fake. Its like seeing a whole new side of myself, and even of other girls that not everyone gets to see every day. I simply love it.

I've found that every car photographer I've ever met loves cars, every product photographer obsesses over details, every areal photographer is also a pilot.  I think it's the love of the subject matter that propels people to excel in a crowded market and I don't think you'd be where you are if you were at a dead end.  That said, I think I know how you feel about shooting the same way, the same poses, the same types of shots day in and day out and I think that's natural.  I give myself challenges to keep myself interested but ultimately you are limited by what the members and staff want on the site.  I think it's great you're asking these questions and I hope you keep pushing your boundaries and finding new ways to express your motivation for being a photographer. I think you'll find that the broader world of photography is both extremely big and open to all sorts of different kinds of art, but at the same time you'll ultimately run in to stagnating limitations no matter where you go.  I don't think that's a bad thing, it's the journey that's important.

Remember that zine I previewed in the last blog? I'm happy to announce it's finally up for sale! It's 20 full color pages on matte and semigloss paper on and 8.5x11 format for 15!

Click the link to Buy here!!!

Thanks in advance!!

It's been awhile or maybe it's never been that i've been able to just hang out with a model I have real creative chemistry with and shoot the whole day with no goal in mind other than to just take pictures. looking for takers

It's also been awhile for me to not see "hot girls" as just a commodity as well...

Recently I've had to come to to terms with loss. One of my hard drives without warning died on me, I lost a good chunk of the photos I had taken over the last 2 years including a bunch of sets for the site. The majority had already hit member review but a couple will never return.

As an artist, I sometimes feel that...

I'm so glad you decided to give shooting another shot because I've been drooling over your previews from Hell City. I remember seeing your work back when I joined in 2009 and you only had a handful of sets and then watching as you evolved and became staff. Watching that has been a real pleasure.
jezel:
Was so great to meet you. I look forward to hanging with you at Hell City next year! <3

When I first moved up to Portland I came up here with the idea of not locking myself into a job I wouldn't like in the long run and to really try to push my photography. As it ended up I got a job that had nothing to do with photography but at the same time I could work from home and set my...
