Queens is indeed the place to be for a young 20 something in NY with a modest income.  Brooklyn is the hipster hood, but the rents have sky-rocketed over the past few years. And Manhattan...well, we could have a long discourse on the lux-boxes in the sky.  The boy lives in Astoria, which is close enough, but still affordable and you nailed the ethnicity- old school Czech, Polish, Greek and Italian infused with Latino, Middle-eastern, African- 31 flavors and then some.  It is as it should be. :-)

I haven't listened to Fairytale in ages... thanks for that reminder. I shall have to share it w/young son, who now lives in Queens, planting trees for NYC Parks.  He's livin' the dream. :-)

Thanks - hope yours was great - mine was pretty good - first thanksgiving without my brother, so it was a bit of a somber affair, and my mom was sick to boot. Oh well.

Bill was catching hell from some asshats for sounding too much like E.S. when I first discovered him several years ago.  I just finally got that CD and love the minor chords or whatever it has going on in that song.

Yours is the only blog that is giving me issues, oddly.  I wondered if it might be because your most recent was before the migration and that maybe they had somehow switched something so that comments couldn't be left on old blogs.  I can, however, leave a new comment in this thingy.

Thanks for commenting on my blog Cybele! And I need to edit and add more kitty pics to my folder here! They're much more cooperative than human models... LOL

The fates have smiled brilliantly upon the ancient peoples of Asia Minor for their goddess Cybele is all that and so very much more. Rejoice, Denver, for her presence should never be taken for granted!

Alone now, the bitter dregs of coffee staining my tongue to cover the taste of unsaid words, I hunch my shoulders against the cold. I shuffle determinedly toward the hard, grey line of the horizon, my posture betraying no more than the steely resolve I intend. My mouth set in a grim line, my eyes dry, emotionless, flat. But my heart, o, fickle blood rose, traitor of an ever-pumping organ....my heart cries out for all to hear and judge...'CYBELE! CYBEEEEEELE!"

You will be hard pressed to find anyone as charming or lovely as this lady.

Never met her but wish I had. Anyone who writes "still seeking tat artist who can reproduce Matisse on flesh" is good in my book. Arty yet hip.

Betenoire is fluid poetry in human form. Her words wash over me and I get a feeling of comfort from them. We're lucky to have her here, she classes up the joint real good...*wink*
