I just found out a paper I wrote just last year was accepted for publication in a journal called "Biological Theory!" It It is published out of MIT. It represents my 2d attempt to talk some sense into cultural anthropology...
I am super stoked!
vellin:

Yesterday, at about 5pm, my Master's thesis defense was successfully concluded... I am now done here at USF! Awesome!!! I have some edits to make to my thesis, but that is the trivial part. Now it's time for some champagne, and more packing for the University of Utah, where I start my PhD work in August!
My day went great, I drank about 14 beers...

Aww thank you. Yes, my Master's was technically in Applied Environmental Science and we learned about all sorts of cool, crazy stuff in the last 3 years!
nicoleblythe:
Congrats, yet I'm still stuck on the 14 beers plus and no sleep. that could be a killer if you had worked the next day. Congratulations nonetheless. miao!!

It's great to see one of my own ideas as the "last word" in my favorite biology journal! shocked

I'm originally from Cranston, RI. Now living in Colorado.
crazyben:
Cool! That's where my youngest brother lives, his wife is from Johnston (?). I live in FL and moving to Salt Lake City for my PhD work in August.

*SPOILER*
Actually, I don't know why I was so generous with Marx the other night! I think it may have been the fact that I was drunk on Duvel and Delirium tremens at the time...
I would recommend anyone who thinks the stuff he says about the proletariat owning or controlling the means of production is a good idea to read Jean Baudrillard's book "The...

I'm glad to hear your brother is still doing well. It his so hard to see how much power that sort of thing has over people... it's literally as if it IS the most important thing in their life.
crazyben:
Yes, it is! Literally, they often have these neurotransmitters firing in the pleasure centers of the frontal lobe and neocortex telling them: GET MORE! GET MORE!...
I hope your brother gets out OK and all.

I am eating a one pound serving of ravioli, also drinking my 3rd latte since I woke up at 2pm and some mineral water too. Listening to the Peter Pears/Benjamin Britten recording of Schubert's "Winterreise" and reading Temper's new blog. Great way to start off a night! Weird adventures, cool pics and rad music. Also, if you haven't heard Britten's "Rape of Lucretia", listen to...

Yay for raviolis!
Anyways, about your theory: I only went out in public to use my computer because my Internet wasn't working and peets has wifi! smile Lol
crazyben:
Peet's is the nice, I wish we had them here! Yes, I see it a lot with my students, that they're trying to use their laptop secretly during class... which is silly since I can see them very well from the podium lol

Well, I didn't get into ASU or Nebraska. Oddly, the Nebraska people I interviewed with in Biology just reiterated the complaints about me having too many big ideas. What a surprise, I live with my head in the clouds of esotieric philosophical and mathematical theories and... I have lots of big ideas? Who could ever have guessed such a thing!
On the other hand...it turns...

whhhat? how is being a teacher not a "real job"?? you are getting kids excited about science it's very rewarding!
crazyben:
I know it sounds silly right? Any job where you don't feel like you're working when you do it is awesome in my book. My ex is probably just insane smile

Ladies, Gentlemen and Criminals,
ASU was great, but I'm not narrow-minded enough for their department. Nebraska was friggin' amazing... until I got to Utah. The University of Utah was fucking awesome! I interviewed with one of the most famous living theoretical biologists in the world. I hope I get in!
At noon I head to Seattle to interview at the University of Washington! I am...

Well the year is finally getting interesting: I applied to 4 top 10 PhD programs in my field and I scored visits/interviews at 3 of them! Woohooo! I had a 4th today, a phone interview to see if one likes me or not. I guess the graduate committee at this school didn't like the idea that I work in multiple fields, bridging disciplines and obliterating...
