they absolutely cannot refuse to hire you because you are a Reservist. If they ever so much as hint that that might be the reason you weren't hired, I'd immediately go to your legal office, assuming your unit has one. I went through that bullshit for two months after I got back from being deployed in '02 and I let them know that there was no way I was going anywhere for at least two years (ended up being a year and a half. whoops) since I had just gotten back.

it sucks because then, even if they end up hiring you under legal pressure, you're stuck in a hostile situation. but what I was told was "you probably won't get hired by them anyway. they'll find some way to weasel around it, but you don't really want to work for someone like that. The issue is that they have to learn they CANNOT do that to our military people...and hopefully the next one who applies won't get the shaft"

Fair, I should have also guessed that noone actually wants to do more than pay lip service to servicemembers, versus hiring practices that may increase profitability -due to employees not being deployed. Ugh, hypocrisy makes me irate.
