Thanks for all of the birthday wishes guys! I feel so warm and fuzzy now. smile

My coworker gave me a Mario Batali cookbook and brought in two desserts to share with everyone for my birthday. My other coworker baked me two large cookies. It was a great day at work. Everyone gave the requisite "You don't look 30!" line, which is good, I guess. Maybe...

Dudes, I'm going to be 30 next Wednesday. That sounds like such a milestone, doesn't it? I'm not freaking out or feeling ancient or anything yet, but I did think I'd have more accomplished by 30. I was watching the first episode of the US version of "The Office" and Pam had a great quote about her job. "No little girl ever dreams of being...

You and me both, sister. Although, I think my boss is glad I lack ambition because it means I'll continue to be his assistant

What are you doing for your birthday?

We've had a lovely weekend of mild activity and hanging out with friends. Yesterday we headed down to Corvallis to see SnakePlissken and be fed by him, and the man did not disappoint. We had delicious burgers filled with bacon and mushrooms, corn salad, and mead. Mmmm, I think I'm still full this morning.

Corvallis is adorable, like a small town that didn't go bust,...

I had several inches cut off my hair last night, just in time for the weather to be all shitty and not warm. I think I'm doing it wrong.

bridgetwnpeddler:
yeah you seem to be cutting it short kinda late in the season... but what the hell, change in the hair always makes you feel like a new you.
bridgetwnpeddler:
I have lost two other Sundays to that activity... not today. A bit harder to justify that in the Summer. But it is a nice way to spend the day!

Thanks, Summer Olympics! Before tonight, I had no idea synchronized diving was a real event. surreal

In other news, my coworker is getting married soon, so we're having a shower for her. I'm in charge of finding songs about weddings, marriage, etc. Other than that "Going to the chapel and we're gonna get married" song, I'm drawing a blank. Help?

I figure maybe I'll check out...

So are you all signed up on Yelp yet?

A little. Also, I used green peppers. Because they're the cheapest. Heehee.

Five years ago today, I decided to join this wacky site. Less than two weeks later, EnergyChannel and I found each other. love

Thanks, SG, for snagging me an awesome man, and a whole gaggle of awesome friends. Who knew that naked ladies could bring us all together?

Lately, I am an exercise in cognitive dissonance.

A large part of me wishes to be frugal, save money, keep an eye on the future and buying a house and doing other grown-up things. Then the rest of me says "fuck it, let's buy new bikes, Mario Kart, hit Costco and Trader Joe's, and go out to eat a few times, then go look at...

That is a daunting ride no matter who you are. Definitley have to build up to it.
bridgetwnpeddler:
Yeah I did really enjoy it, having played SIMS in the past it really clicked when I saw the scene with the numbers over peoples heads. I had my suspicion of what was going on but at that point I really had it nailed even though I was not sure if he was running the game or just in the game.

My girlfriend was hopelessly lost in the movie. Usually we don't watch movies like that together because she asks me too many questions during the movie ruining the experience for me. But it was the only one we had and so she said yeah let's watch it.

Oh well.

For some ungodly reason, I'm fully awake at 6-something on a Sunday morning. That's just not right.

It might be because I'm thinking about these bicycles that EnergyChannel wants us to buy, even though they are each like $500. We want to get back into bicycling, save gas, get in shape, perhaps recapture some youth, but that some expensive recapturing, isn't it?

I haven't had...

Last bike I had stolen from me was about $500. I spend at least $40 a week on gas though, so a bike would eventually end up saving me money. And endorphins are pretty priceless.
mattacme:
$500 is not a ton of dough for a good bike, as many have noted. I tend to go second hand for high-end equipment and cars as the savings are so large, though with bikes that usually means getting something that was really good (or the shit) a few years ago but is now a bit passe. The good points to this strategy are saving dollars and your bike is less appealing to thieves and saving dollars (I like that). The bad is that you don't get the newest keenest color. Whatever way you go, try to enlist the help of a friend to advise you on the cost/quality issues and maybe even the particular bikes themselves.

Weekend of Gluttony or What Happens When Family Visits

Eating. Eating is what happens. Every breakfast in a different restaurant. One grows weary of eggs after a day or two, although the biscuits and gravy at Genie's is delicious. We usually skip lunch, as breakfast tends to be more calories than I usually ingest in a day, and opt for dinner instead, where again I...

Beating the heat by hiding in the bedroom with the AC on, watching "The Wire" from episode one. Only emerging into the rest of the house when absolutely necessary. Looking forward to a drop in temperatures later this week, as I'm a giant wimp when it comes to the heat.

My dad and stepmom are coming up next weekend, which should be fun. Dad wants...

Dude, of course I hate hanging out with you guys. That's why we're at your house so often. tongue

The vacation was pretty relaxing, all things considered. Too bad I woke up Friday with a cold. Blech.

Did you start the classes?

I hate the money argument. It's by far one of the more stupid things to fight about. I also hate my constant need for financial security. For something I need so damn much, I sure am bad about having it.

Oh well. At least the sun's out.

We had a dog door at our last place, so that's fine as long as your yard is completely fenced in with no holes or large spaces under the fence. It seemed like it was to me, but I guess I only saw the one side of the house.

Murderface is kind of a dick to other animals, so Nimh is used to it. Nimh usually just ignores other cats as hard as she can.

She would definitely eat cat food if she could get to it. We keep it on top of the dryer.

Both of my animals pretty much sleep all day. The only time Nimh pays attention to the cat at all is when I'm paying attention to the cat.

If you're really worried about it feel free to say no. I don't want you to feel like you have to just because I asked.

erika:
Hey, no worries! It was a super last-minute thing, I was surprised anyone showed up at all wink I miss you and your man, we should get together for ice cream independent of my birthday.
