I've really been jonesing for some ink lately. A lot. The problem is I don't know where to start. I'm not a fan of small, randomly located tattoos. I don't think it looks bad, it's just not what I want. I want a good half sleeve or something...but where do you start? I'm not sure what subject matter...

I started with what I miss and what i love. A memorial for a friend, and my reverence for the ocean. In a style that suits me.

That's what I've been thinking as well, maoskeyham. I want something regarding a compass rose, which has so many meanings for me: aviation, travel, finding my way, outdoor activities, etc. Surrounding it, I envision a Tolkien quote, "Not all those who wander are lost," surrounding it. I also want something regarding bikes. They may not stay a permanent facet of my life, who knows. But for now, with my family, it's all BMX, MTBs, and anything bike related. Perhaps a single sprocket tattoo, to symbolize all the varieties of bikes in our line-up. Something for my kids' names would be awesome, not the letters, but the symbols of their very visual names.
I'm just overwhelmed by the thought of tying them together somehow, of how exactly I want them to look, etc.

I'm feeling overwhelmed with Christmas coming up and all. I am trying to make a wooden play kitchen for the kiddos and it is by far the largest wood project that I have ever ever made. I suppose we shall see how it turns out. The best part, however, is that it's all going to be made of very local and sustainable cypress...

Just curious, I own a small business here in Beaumont called The Belt Source where I sell belts for everything but your pants. Sounds strange I know, but there are belts on all kinds of things, so I stay pretty busy. Anyway, I get a lot of wood workers in, from the guys who cut trees and mill them into lumber, to the people that use the finished product to build cabinets and furniture. I would think that kiln dried wood would be best, but my buddy Ray is a purest who insist that allowing the wood to dry naturally is the best way to go. After both Hurricane Rita and Ike, I helped Ray mill wood he collected from all over town. With all the trees that came down, Ray was like a kid in a candy store. He has like a portable lumber mill on a trailer, so he was cutting his own planks from the trees he pick up off the side of the road. Oak, pecan, and walnut were the trees Ray was going for. Seriously, I think he has enough wood now to build a house, but he's into building furniture. He insist it's just a hobby, but I know he makes some pretty serious bucks off the stuff he sells. Anyway, if the wood you're using is kiln dried, I wouldn't think it would shrink or crack, especially if you pre-drill all the holes for your joints and hardware, but what don I know? :-)

Here is the finished product! I'm SO very happy!

So...like a 10 second blog just because! With kids, how do I have time other than this? So, I've taking a liking to making bread and geocaching. It's all fun. The geocaching gives me something to do with the kiddos and the bread, well that puts me in the kitchen where I belong. eeekbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

First blog? Where should you start when you're talking to people you don't know? Some tale from your history? A basic rundown of "who" you are? A rant about a cause near and dear? Some personal current event?

I suppose I'll start with the last choice mentioned. My husband and I were visiting family for a week at the beginning of January...

I would go insane with a week and a half no sex lol. how long do you have to wait for it to heal?

aviatrix:

I have to wait 2-3 weeks initially to have sex, then I can have sex with a barrier until it is fully healed at 6-8 weeks. Plastic wrap in the way...that sucks. But the time is about up, so it's back in the saddle for another 6 months until I get more 'metal' down there. biggrinbiggrin
