Babygirl's birthday went well, the 2 pairs of Converse were a big hit, but the Beatles T-shirt was an even bigger one. My child is wise beyond her 9 years.

Have you noticed, the second you grab a camera to take a picture of something cute your cat is doing, they have to stop doing it? Even if you're being sly and the camera was...

Have you read any of Sharon Olds poetry? She helped me to see victims as survivors. I always assumed that if I were sexually attacked or physically mutilated that I would certainly curl up and die--I was wrong. The struggle to live is innate and with our last breath (particularly those of use with children to think about) we will try to live, not die.

Nice getting to know you.

You ever wonder if anyone else gives a shit? Ever wonder if you give a shit?

As a bleeding-heart Liberal wink I idealize myself as giving a shit, but in practice, I'm just trying not to kill everybody (except those that I love - well, most of the time).

so, how was the girls birthday?

what color chucks did she get?

SO, went kayaking for the first time yesterday, and not to toot my own horn, but I did pretty okay. It was a little frightening at first (my eyes looked like this eeek ), but once I mastered the paddling I didn't do too badly. I did get jammed up on a rock, but I managed to get loose without flipping, and still holding onto my...

Babygirl's birthday is t-minus 6 days away. She's gonna be nine, her last single digit year.... Sigh.... frown

And what does my daughter want for her birthday more than anything else? A pair of Converse high-tops. That is hilarious to me. Has there been a generation who hasn't worn/wanted those? biggrin

I might have had chucks. I definitely had the checkered Vans, though. I might buy another pair, especially when I'm an Old Dad, just to work against the Old Dad thing.

Converse hi-tops are the shit. Your daughter is so lucky to have such a cool mamma.

Thanks to all who sent "get well" wishes. Not feeling any better today, so I decided to take tonight off (thank the Gods for sick leave).

Yeah, I kept getting a message that SG was out of hot, naked women, and some guy named Timmy was going to the store to buy more. I was mystified because for once, I was NOT trying to see hot, naked women.

Just kidding. Chicks are gross.

Thanks for the link...and the friendship. Now I have someone new to flirt with wink

I have a friend in Washington, but have yet to make it up there. If we ever do, we should hook up and have dinner or a drink or something. Good to have friends outside of your own town.

PS
Hope you feel better soon

Monday comes, and I feel like death on a Triscuit (spelling?). I'm sick, and I'm tired, and I'm sick of being sick and tired. I'm gonna curl up on the couch, drink too much peppermint or green tea, and watch movie musicals (already made it through "Rent" this morning). One of my biggest regrets? That I have no singing ability, and I SO wish I...

Yesterday, I'm sitting in the nail salon getting a pedicure (my favorite self-indulgence), when in walked my worst nightmare.

I mean, This woman was a walking verison of every plastic surgery sterotype. You want an example of what she looked like? Put both hands on the sides of your face and pull back as hard as you can, and you might approximate what this woman...

The thing about plastic surgery is that one can ALWAYS tell.
There might be the ocassional tiny tuck no one can spot, but then what's the point?
Plastic surgery does not make people look younger.
It make them look desperate and pathetic.
I don't know why they don't get that.
It seems like every celebrity over the age of 35 has had it done.
Every actress I thought was hot who has it done instantly goes off my list.
I hate the way it looks!
Whew!
chalka:
Bad plastic surgery actually gets my heart racing and brings me close to an anxiety attack. I just can't stomach the idea that these women hated themselves so much that they went under the knife--again and again and again.

Why today is a good day:

smile Babygirl finally fought off her cold

smile Mom (ie me) successfully fighting off cold given to me by Babygirl, which means I feel good enough to go work out again

smile Supervisor on vaca: fuck-off Friday at work! Whoo hoo!! Which, I know, is small consolation for working on Friday night, but sometimes it's the little things....

Party hardy babies!! kiss surreal biggrin

The sun came out again! Took the babygirl to the beach (one of those great, rocky beaches at which this state excells) for some shell hunting/mother daughter time.

"Momma?"

"Yeah baby?"

"This is the best day of my life."

It was a good day.... smile

What I learned at work this week: you can taze a spider. Sorry, I can't make shit like that up.

Perhaps you should have Tazered one of those people and not the spider? smile It's a tad harsh, yes, but, clearly, they've earned it more than did the arachnid.

Spring seems intermittent these days. I can't complain about the weather per se, but it doesn't feel quite like May yet, you know?

I've never been especially adept when it comes to implements such as rubber bands. I always end up shooting myself with them, thanks to my utter lack of coordination. biggrin

The sun appeared a decent amount today, no? I didn't specifically notice. skull

Yet again, a drinking holiday comes, and I'm working. Boozy holidays are very busy nights where I work! I need to start taking these nights off. Oh well, everyone will just have to down an extra shot of Jose in my honor. If everyone starts to look like this:

... you're doing just fine.
