Reading the Grant Morrison interview on the site sorta jarred loose a lot of memories...
I remember I was 17 and picked up The Invisibles and I identified with Dane. I was so pissed off and scared, feeling alone. I wanted to burn the world down.
Then later, when I managed to track down all the issues of Doom Patrol. I remember at the time I was there with Cliff, I felt emasculated, frustrated, almost removed from reality. My life had been destroyed, but I had managed to pull through. And in the end Cliff found Crazy Jane, just like he said he would.
It's funny now all his stuff, shit I had to track down, is being collected. It's all cool stuff... he's got a lot of good ideas. I'm just amused that now that it's all readily available and now it's all right there, I feel like I've moved on to something else.
I'll always be grateful to Grant Morrison, though. Not the actual person, but this sort of abstract figurehead that in some ways helped me out during some rough times.
How does that go... Trust the art not the artist?
