500 pounds, eating a cheeseburger, with assistant in backrooms - the producer I met with munched away listening to the pitch.

"We don't have any money. We just spent $600,000 on 'An Hasidic Jew in Flashdancers'", he said.

"Plus, it's too complicated. You need a simpler story."

How much more simple can I make the damn thing? Either you don't have money or it's too complicated. It's been years already and I'm trained to take rejection as fuel.

"Why does she have to be Japanese? Make her Jewish. Jewish sells."

Jewish sells? Are all those taxi-drivers right about the hollywood monopoly? Fuck, I can write anything -- but I wrote this and...

"Well, she can be a Japanese Jewish American, that's not the point.", I said.

"Oppressed from all sides, that's good but still, what's the point?"

I made the point. I stated the central question in the first sentance and ended with a clear resolution. Another bastard that OPTS not to understand.

"Nuclear proliferation will lead to 15 year old boy scouts making nuclear weapons out of foil and smoke detectors."

"That's not a point."

"I think it's the most important point."

"Can you make us a website?"

"Yea, can you produce my film?"

"No. Not right now. And we can't pay you for the website right away but make it look like Miramax."

"I worked for Miramax, y'know."

"Oh yeah, did you pitch them your story?"

"Yea."

"And..."

"And they asked me to make them a website."

Actually, I'm sitting here talking to you 5 years later with a newfound affliction for migraines about to make another website for a company that won't be around in year because they think they know what people want to see. Damn, I wish I had roman cheekbones and a yarmulka, then they wouldn't think I was some 17 year old heathen who wants to take down the system. Hold on...I'm on to something.
