I think it's a bad sign if they get back to you on time, I've never got a job where they got back to me on time. If they take a while it means they haven't ruled you out yet.
Just apply for lots of jobs and you'll get one of them eventually. When I applied for my dream job they got back to my in two days saying I didn't get it. That was crappy.

.. a piercing apprenticship would be excellent.. it is a skill that would be great to have.. and you would be able to make some extra cash on the side piercing friends and such. Even if you can't get an apprenticeship maybe there is a course that you can do!
